Being pregnant is a tough gig. You can no longer see your toes (so no point in a decadent pedi), you’ve become way too acquainted with the inside of your toilet bowl through those hideous months of morning sickness, and your nipples are doing, erm, strange things. We’ve all been there and got the maternity sized tee-shirt. But what helped us through the aching back, bloated ankles and tension headaches? Prenatal massage, is what! We’ve given birth to no less than 20 babies amongst the HoneyKids’ crew, and these are the amazing spas and masseurs that rubbed, squeezed and kneaded us safely through some of those long pregnancy moments…
THE ONES WE’VE TRIED
Zie Professional Massage Technician and Beautician
With a Diploma, ITEC and NSRS Certifications in prenatal and post-natal massage, Zie knows her stuff when it comes to making a mum-to-be feel like a million dollars. Her menu also includes facials, ear candling, reflexology and make-up services for when you need a home beauty specialist on speed dial once you’ve popped out bubba!
“I had the best prenatal massages from Zie, a lady I found through a recommendation on a Facebook support group. I loved that she had firm hands and wasn’t afraid to use them (a lot of masseurs won’t use too much pressure on pregnant ladies) which although brought the odd tear to my eye, it totally revitalised me. The best thing about it? Getting out of the house when you’re the size of the house isn’t easy: Zie can come to you!” Mum-of-two, Jana

Babies-Bellies offers both pre and post-natal massages as well as wrap treatments from the sanctuary of your own home (or at one of its cosy spas). Massages for pregnant mummies are recommended once you pass the five-month mark of ‘incubation’.
“I used Babies Bellies and after just one session I happily signed up for both prenatal and postnatal packages! The masseur was perfect: she was very gentle and experienced and every session had me blissed out.” Mum-of-one, Santi

Elements Wellness Group
This award-winning spa offers a heavenly prenatal massage, as well as heaps of other wonderful spa treatments once the bun is out of the oven. Also: adjustable beds should be totally standard when pregnant!
“Taking a break from feeling like I had been run over by a truck, I put myself in the safe hands of the Elements Wellness Group for a prenatal massage. Suddenly being preggers with number three didn’t feel quite so arduous! And can we just take a moment to appreciate about the genius beds they use with an adjustable temperature…” Mum-of-three, Tracy

The ‘Sweet Expectations’ prenatal package includes a body scrub to leave skin aglow, and a soothing prenatal massage using sweet almond oil. Experts will rub away those aching pregnancy muscles in no time at all.
“I tried Estheva Spa and although the room wasn’t the comfiest because it was super tiny, the massage was awesome. Also, these guys are one of the few who do foot reflexology together with their prenatal massages. Most of them stay away from it because they fear it might jumpstart labour, but at 9.5 months pregnant I REALLY needed a foot massage and this was heavenly.” Mum-of-one, Jassmin
