This Bangkok park offers wide open space, playgrounds and a chance to spot one of the city’s most unexpected residents
Right in the middle of Bangkok’s business district, Lumphini Park is where families go when they want space to breathe, move and slow things down a little. It’s bigger, greener and more varied than most central parks, which means you can easily turn a quick visit into a longer, more relaxed outing. The newly opened Lumphini dog park there also really makes the park very inclusive for all living things.
And yes, there’s another living thing that kids will definitely remember: the monitor lizards.
What is Lumphini Park?

This family-friendly park is one of Bangkok’s largest and most well-known green spaces, built around a lake with walking paths, playgrounds and open lawns.
It’s designed for everything from jogging and cycling to picnicking and paddle boating. Despite being surrounded by high-rises, it feels surprisingly calm in certain pockets, especially if you wander a little further in.
It’s also one of the few places in Bangkok where wildlife and city life overlap in a very visible way.
Inside Lumphini Park: what families can expect

Here are some of the highlights from the park:
Wide open spaces to run and play
There’s plenty of room for kids to move freely whether that’s running on the grass, kicking a ball or just exploring without feeling restricted.

Playgrounds for younger kids
The park has designated play areas with slides and climbing equipment, making it easy to keep younger children entertained.
Monitor lizard spotting
This is the standout moment. Around the lake, you’ll often spot large monitor lizards slowly making their way across paths or swimming in the water. It’s safe to observe from a distance and always a bit of a “wow” moment for kids.
Paddle boats on the lake
Families can rent swan-shaped paddle boats and head out onto the water, a fun, low-effort activity that kids usually love.
Shaded walking and cycling paths
Tree-lined paths make it more comfortable to walk or cycle, especially in the mornings and late afternoons.

Why families keep coming back to Lumphini Park

What makes this thing to do in Bangkok with kids stand out is the space.
Unlike smaller parks, you don’t feel crowded here. There’s room to spread out, explore and let kids move at their own pace. It works just as well for an active morning as it does for a slower, picnic-style afternoon.
For kids, it’s a mix of playgrounds, animals and open space. For parents, it’s the rare chance to enjoy a bit of nature right in the city.
It takes a little more time than a quick park stop but that’s exactly the point.
