Turning 100 is no mean feat. Kudos to Tanglin Trust School for achieving this fantastic milestone!
In the blink of an eye, Tanglin Trust School is commemorating its centenary this academic year. And yes, that means that it’s a whopping 100 years old! So much has happened and changed in these 100 years, and the school just can’t wait to show it all off. Can you imagine that it started with just five students back in the day?
Established in 1925, Tanglin Trust School is pulling out all the stops to celebrate. Here are some events to look forward to:
Centenary exhibition
Curious about school life at Tanglin Trust in the decades past? The Centenary exhibition (until June 2025) features intriguing highlights from Tanglin’s history. Marvel at class photos and uniforms through the years, heritage boards, and artefacts, as well as lots of original letters, reports, and school magazines from the archive. P.S. Many of these items haven’t been exhibited before, so you’re in for a real treat!
To commemorate the opening of the exhibition, Tanglin even received an official letter of congratulations from Buckingham Palace in London. Cool, huh! Want to see more? Check out this video.
Centenary Speaker series
With 100 years of history, Tanglin Trust School is all poised and geared up to tackle the next 100 years. The Institute at Tanglin has curated a series of talks based on the theme ‘The Future of…’, led by industry leaders, such as Forbes-recognised entrepreneur Dr Ayesha Khanna.
Keep a lookout for topics like ‘The Future of Health Industries’ ,’The Future of Work in the Age of Gen AI’, ‘The Future of Robotics’, and ‘The Future of Asia: Economics and Geopolitics’.
You’ll want to bookmark this too: mark your calendars for the Centenary Keynote ‘Winning with AI’ talk with Dr Ayesha Khanna, a global expert on AI. Tickets are limited, so grab yours here!
100 Tanglin Tales
How better to cherish 100 years of amazing memories than immortalising them in a limited edition coffee table book? Written by students, staff, alumni and parents, ‘100 Tanglin Tales’ brings to life fascinating stories and facts revolving around Tanglin in the last century. Of even greater significance, the book launch will take place at the Tanglin Club, where the school was founded by Miss Griff. Fun fact: the story behind the creation of the Centenary Gin is also a unique tribute to Miss Griff!
Psst: Tanglin has also created a special gin to celebrate this momentous milestone! Inspired by herbs found in the Malaysian Highlands, which was the home of the Tanglin Cameron Boarding School during the 1930’s, the gin is a delicious blend of orange peel, lemongrass, Asian tea, black tea, and tamarind. There’s more to it too: the gin is a glorious tribute to Miss Griff, the founder of Tanglin Trust School.
Centenary concert at The Esplanade
That’s not all: Tanglin has even commissioned acclaimed British composer Jonathan Dove to compose a piece to mark the school’s centenary. This masterpiece will be performed by both Tanglin students, alongside a professional choir and orchestral players. Tanglin’s Centenary Music Scholars will also take to the stage to perform pieces that they have been preparing throughout the year, truly making it a night to remember.
Summer festival and birthday party: Centenary Edition
The fun just doesn’t stop! Look forward to the school’s summer festival with carnival games, student displays, activities, food, international country stalls, live performances, and more. Gather the whole fam!
Plus, get ready to have a blast on 21 March 2025, when the whole school (including students of all ages) will come together for a mega birthday bash. Stay tuned for more details.
Centenary Celebrations in London
And hey, if you’re based in London, the Younger Tanglin alumni reunion is happening on 15 November 2024. In fact, every year, over 400 Tanglin alumni gather in London for reunion drinks. Consider us impressed! This year’s event will be held at London’s St Pancreas Renaissance Hotel, and will be Tanglin’s biggest gathering of young and old alumni.
Back in Singapore, the celebrations continue! This coming March, head to Clifford Pier at the Fullerton for an elegant Gala Cocktail Reception. Raise a glass to both the past and the future, against the backdrop of special live performances that will feature music through the ages. It’s shaping up to be quite a special event, and we just can’t wait to find out more.
We don’t know about you, but 100 years is definitely something to raise a toast to. Free up your calendars, and join Tanglin Trust School as they well-deservedly celebrate!
