St. Joseph’s Institution International Preschool, opened in 2024, is a school where love, learning, and growth intertwine.
Formerly known as Maris Stella Kindergarten, SJI International Preschool has a rich history that spans over six decades, starting with the arrival of the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary Sisters in Singapore in 1953.
SJI International Preschool embraces a holistic, child-centric approach, nurturing and supporting each child’s physical, social, emotional, spiritual, and intellectual growth. The curriculum is thoughtfully designed to ignite curiosity, promote critical thinking, and cultivate a lifelong love for learning.
At SJI International Preschool, we cultivate a vibrant and engaging learning environment through an inquiry-based approach, deeply rooted in social constructivism. Recognising that young children actively build knowledge through interaction and exploration, our curriculum emphasises collaborative investigation, meaningful dialogue, and shared discovery.
Through carefully designed and progressive units of inquiry, children engage in authentic, real-world experiences, fostering their natural curiosity through questioning, investigating, and reflecting in partnership with peers and educators.
As a Lasallian Catholic preschool, Pastoral Care is central to our ethos and identity. Supported by the globally recognised Virtues Project, the primary purpose of the pastoral care programme is to provide children with rich experiences to build a positive sense of self. It aims to provide the environment for children to form their ideas about belonging, meaning and truth, which prepares them for future citizenship in a contemporary and diverse society. The pastoral care programme is integrated with skills building and concepts of development across developmental domains of cognition, literacy, numeracy, technology and the arts.
This holistic approach – including our distinctive Outdoor Learning Programme – ensures that learning is meaningfully embedded within the context of each child’s inquiries. The result is a cohesive and developmentally appropriate journey that nurtures the whole child and lays a strong foundation for future success.

Children joining us in 2026 will enjoy the beautifully restored and sensitively renovated Shalom House building. Purposefully designed to honour the heritage and legacy of the original Maris Stella Kindergarten, established by the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary, this building blends its rich history with state-of-the-art facilities. It supports the latest pedagogical approaches and the developmental needs of young children, ensuring a supportive and inspiring environment for every child.
Exciting New Developments
A second phase of renovation is currently underway in another area of the campus, affectionately named Santo Bambino (The Christ Child). This new facility, which is planned for completion at the end of 2026, will further enhance our beautiful Holland Road campus. Students joining in 2027 will be among the first to benefit from the complete campus, featuring two distinct state-of-the-art buildings dedicated to early childhood education. This expansion provides increased capacity and diverse learning spaces to ensure every child can thrive.
