Spending quality time with the kids during the school holidays doesn’t have to be an expensive affair - check out these cool arts and craft ideas!
With the kids being home most of the time, school holidays are some of the best opportunities for us parents to have more family time with them. And it doesn’t even need to be an overseas trip or an elaborate family outing – you can have exciting adventures and even ‘see the world’ from the comforts of your home too! All you need is some cardboard box, paper (we recommend you to go green and use recycled options as much as possible), colourful markers (the more, the merrier!), scissors, glue, and a trusty printer.
Got ‘em? Great! Here are some arts and craft ideas you can try with the kids this school holiday.
1. Get started on that Father’s Day project
In case you need a reminder – Father’s Day is just around the corner! Design a superhero-themed card for the superhero dad; print a photo collage of all the best dad moments; or craft a keepsake based on his favourite books and movies. Need ideas? We’ve got you covered with this list!
2. Spend some quiet time colouring
Not gonna lie – colouring is something that even we adults enjoy as well! Not only does it help your little ones improve their motor and concentration skills, it can help mummy and daddy relax too. No worries if you don’t have a colouring book – you can easily find free colouring printables online.
3. Explore or create magical worlds with cardboard boxes
Got a pile of delivery boxes lying around the house from your recent online shopping haul? Good news: they could be the kids’ new favourite toy. Get them to start thinking about what they would like to do: visit another planet, explore an unknown world hidden inside boxes (think Narnia), or build the world’s fastest race car. The possibilities are endless with this one!
4. Make or print your own board games
Board games can be pricey and difficult to find, especially if your family are fans of indie games. But fret not – you can find free board game templates online! Or better yet, recreate your favourite board game using the tools you have at home, or feel free to make one from scratch.
5. Refresh the decor at home
If your kids didn’t get to have a say when you last decorated the house, you could use this school holiday as a chance to get them involved. Starting with their rooms, ask your child if there’s anything they would like to add or change: maybe they want to have a dreamcatcher, maybe a DIY painting, family photo, or you could repaint the room too!
6. Put on a show at home
Even without an audience, it’s still fun to play pretend and act out a scene or two from your favourite shows! For this, you’ll need costumes – which you can easily improvise with what you have at home. Bring out the blankets and quilts to act as curtains, print and decorate the masks and crowns for characters you’re playing, build cardboard castles, and you’re all set! Lights, camera, action!
Worried about ‘ink-mergencies’? HP Instant Ink is here to help!
If you’re worried about your printer running out of ink during your arts and craft session, you’ll be happy to know that HP has just the solution for that! HP has a subscription service for its ink cartridges, Instant Ink, that’s designed to ensure you’ll never run out of ink. It does this by delivering new cartridges to your door before you run out, at the same time saving you up to 50% on the cost.
Here’s how it works:
- Choose a printing plan based on your usage – plans start from as low as $1.90 per month.
- Wait for your ink cartridges to arrive!
- Print everything you want! As every page costs the same, you can even print high resolution photos at the same price of black-and-white documents.
- Still got some pages left over in your plan? Don’t worry; you can roll it over to the next month.
The best part? As there are no contracts for Instant Ink, you can unsubscribe from it anytime!
