Need some downtime with the fam bam? Skip the crowds at Seminyak and steer clear of the hipsters in Canggu and head to Sanur. Here’s how to have an awesome vacay with kids with Hyatt Regency Bali as your launchpad.
It’s no secret that families in Singapore are spoilt for choice when it comes to quick vacays. Our personal fave for an easy escape with kids? Bali, of course! After all, it’s only two hours away – which means airplane drama is kept to a minimum – yas! But if you’re like us and want to stay away from the partying set at Seminyak or the Bintang T-shirt stalls at Kuta, staying at Sanur is your best bet for that family-friendly vibe you’re looking for when travelling with kids. Here’s how to do Sanur with Hyatt Regency Bali with its sweet new digs as your family’s launchpad…
What to do in Sanur with kids
Go for a stroll on the coast
When you’ve got a bunch of early risers on your hands, you might as well take in Sanur’s famous sunrises by taking a little stroll with the fam on the beachfront. Your little ones will love pointing out the colourful wooden fishing boats and the elegant old villas along the five-kilometre stretch. When you’re done with sightseeing, plonk yourselves down and start building those sandcastles!
Get lost in downtown Sanur
Grab some rental bikes and pedal over to the high street for a mini shopping trip (you can opt to ditch the kids for this one!) in Sanur’s cute boutique shops. Once the young ‘uns start begging you for food, check out the cafes on Jalan Danau Tamblingan for freshly baked bread, nom-worthy pastries and delish cakes. There’s great coffee in the area, too!
Learn about saving turtles at the Turtle Conservation and Education Centre
Give your little animal-lovers something to look forward to with a trip to the Turtle Conservation and Education Centre in Serangan Island (just a quick drive away from Sanur). They’ll learn how the folks at the centre rescue and rehabilitate our hard-shelled buddies that have been hurt in the wild. Bonus: uber-cute baby turtles!
Where to stay: Hyatt Regency Bali
If you’re looking for a snazzy family retreat, the Hyatt Regency Bali definitely hits the sweet spot with its lush gardens and ah-mazing facilities – trust us, you’ll definitely think twice about leaving the resort. It’s an awesome reimagination of the iconic Bali Hyatt with its newly renovated rooms, three new pools (including a toddler pool with a slide – yasss), amazing restaurants (Indonesian food at Omang Omang, anyone?) and 22 acres worth of spa and fitness facilities. And if you’ve been to the Bali Hyatt, you’d remember its famous garden, lovingly called ‘Sanur’s jungle’ because of its size and diversity of flora and fauna. Good news – it’s all been replanted! If you’re bringing the whole fam along, we suggest splurging a little on a Premium Room. They boast a spacious living area that doubles as extra sleeping spaces for the little ones – score.
So many things to do, so little time
We’re loving the extra-special activities that the folks at Hyatt have drummed up for its guests. Sure, it’s great to have a cocktail or two on the beach, enjoy the plush poolside and try a watersport or two, but we’re digging the traditional fisherman experience where you can hop on a traditional jukung boat and go on a fishing trip. Not your thing? There’s also a Balinese cooking class you could try, pizza making at Pizzaria, or perhaps take a tour of Bali’s east in a classic convertible Volkswagen. Sweet!
