As part of its ‘Planet or Plastic?’ exhibition, ArtScience Museum gives the kiddos hands-on learning opportunities. Plus, check out the guided tours for a deeper insight into the exhibition!
The world’s oceans are filling up with plastic waste and it’s high time we took notice. If you’re keen to educate your little ones on plastic pollution and the 4Rs (reduce, reuse, recycle and refuse), ArtScience Museum is the place to be. Here, we dive into Planet or Plastic?, an exhibition by National Geographic, and you won’t want to miss the interactive highlights before the exhibition closes on 25 April!
Join a tour of the striking exhibition
If you’ve yet to set foot inside the thought-provoking Planet or Plastic? exhibition, join its guided tours for the best experience. The history of plastic will unfold before your eyes through a series of striking photographs with your guide providing deeper insights. Find out how this invention became a pollutant and discover the part you can play in saving the Earth! The guided tours are complimentary for ticket holders to the exhibition (until 25 April), with up to 10 participants per tour on a first come first served basis. There will even be a special tour led by Amita Kirpalani, who is ArtScience Museum’s curator for the exhibition, on 16 April at 6pm. In this tour, Amita will shine a spotlight on a selection of artworks and share insights on how this touring exhibition is presented in its current form at the museum.
Let the kiddos have an interactive experience
For a ‘feet-first’ experience, visit the interactive space in the exhibition that explores the question “Have you ever wondered what happens to your disposable mask when you’re done with it?” This trail features interactive challenges and trivia that sheds light on the consequences of using disposable plastic. Ideal for adults and kids alike, embark on this thought-provoking journey with your little one to reach your own conclusions!
In conjunction with the exhibition, ArtScience Museum has a workshop that lets the young ones learn through having fun. The ‘Make Your Own Tut’ workshop starts with a video about the plight of turtles amidst the plastic pollution in our waters. The kids are then provided arts and craft materials (made from recycled materials, of course!) to create turtle masterpieces of their own. The brightly coloured workshop space called the Rainbow Room gives children a spot to unleash their creativity, while learning about their own role in fighting plastic pollution. Places are filling up fast for this free workshop on 24 April, pre-booking is recommended.
