Looking for a school that encourages kids to use their imagination? You’ll find that and so much more at Sir Manasseh Meyer International School. We had a chat with parent Michelle Yap to find out what her family loves most about it.
As parents of multiple children, we know no two children are alike. The more we compare our kids, the more we see how unique they truly are: physically, emotionally, socially and intellectually. And this makes finding the perfect school – for ALL kids – super tough. Which is why when we had a chat with Michelle Yap, mummy to Howard, Gabriel and Josiah, and found out how happy she was when she found a school all three of her boys loved, we were psyched! For Michelle, Sir Manasseh Meyer International School (SMMIS) has been her school of choice since her boys were 18 months old. Here’s why…
Hi Michelle! Tell us more about your boys.
Our eldest, Howard, has a big, loving and caring heart. His teachers at SMMIS tell us he will make sure all his friends have their lunch serving before he has his own. Gabriel, our second son, is the ‘Einstein’ of our house. He asks an hour of questions about what he learned in school before he goes to bed. Josiah, our youngest, is two years old. He learns everything from his two elder brothers. Josiah likes to assure us that he’ll “do well in life”!
Which important factors do you consider when choosing a school?
Our family believes education is all about expanding one’s horizons. But unfortunately, some people believe learning has changed, that it has evolved into a manner of absorbing heaps of information. That’s why it was important for us to find a school that was dedicated to developing our children’s observation and understanding into active inquiry; one that continually seeks and explores and observes everything, and develop their skills.
What made you finally decide on SMMIS?
When we toured the school and saw the students, they seemed so intelligent , happy and able! We also loved how dedicated the teachers in SMMIS are. They also come from diverse religious backgrounds and have devoted their lives to teaching the next generation about perspective, understanding and choice.
One thing we continue to see at every level is the enthusiasm and camaraderie in all our children (and between parents, too), which is definitely a plus. The school also regularly invites established co-curricular programme providers to complement what’s done in-house.
What do your children love about the school?
Our kids are up at 6.30am, ready and excited to go to school! Before they leave, they tell me what they’ll do at school and what they look forward to the most: Howard loves going to the library while Gabriel can’t wait to get to his maths class. And Josiah, the youngest, loves his swimming class!
SMMIS is a great school because…
Our children can focus on their passions and inner wellbeing; they can learn to view each failure as an opportunity and each success as a way to celebrate each day. At SMMIS, it’s all about education through inspiration: we see the teachers, students and staff all moving with such energy that is reflected in the way they interact and inspire each other.
