A passionate headmaster and a close-knit community teeming with kindness — these are just two of the reasons why Chris and Georgina Rogerson chose Brighton College for their daughter, Isla.
Finding a school that’s the perfect fit for your family isn’t easy — especially in Singapore. But when you know exactly what you want, just like the Rogersons, it makes the leg work a whole lot easier. The Rogersons moved to Singapore from the UK and were psyched when the prestigious Brighton College had a campus in Singapore. From their first email to being actual members of the Brighton College (Singapore) community, the Rogersons have nothing but great things to say about the school. We spoke to Chris and Georgina to learn more about their experience at Brighton College (Singapore) and why their whole family loves it.
Hi Chris and Georgina, how did you decide on Brighton College (Singapore)?
Since we are from the UK, we wanted a school that followed the British curriculum. We knew we’d eventually move back home, so we wanted a transition that was as seamless a possible. We also wanted a small school with a small community feel and we felt that Brighton College ticked all the boxes. It was also important to us that Isla benefitted from the facilities of a large international school and we think it’s great that the students at Brighton have access to both AIS and SAIS’s facilities.
What was your ultimate deciding factor?
Being from the UK, we were familiar with Brighton College’s reputation — which was a huge selling point for us. As soon as we heard it was opening in Singapore, we got in touch. From the moment we sent that first email we felt very well looked after: communication was excellent. Meeting the Headmaster Mr Paul Wilson just confirmed our thoughts; his passion shone through and his belief in the school’s core values of Kindness, Confidence and Curiosity left us with no doubt we would be applying for a place.
What does Isla love most about attending the school?
Isla loves going to school; her teacher Mr Robinson has created a fantastic learning environment for them, and the kids all have such a close bond with each other. Isla loves all the new and exciting subjects the school has to offer and her timetable is packed with lots of variation. The co-curricular activities are also a huge benefit; Isla got to pick her activities and she chose to sign up every day. We think this is testament to how much she enjoys being at school. From day one the staff and teachers made Isla feel very welcome and part of the school. This even started before Isla’s first day as we were invited for afternoon tea, uniform fittings, and orientation days.
How has the school lived up to your expectations?
Considering the challenges of opening a brand new school during a pandemic, the teachers and staff at Brighton College have exceeded our expectations. Isla is so happy, and she looks forward to going into school every day! We take great value in the sense of belonging that Isla feels as part of the school’s community. The teachers and staff take huge pride in delivering the best experience every day and this really shines through in the children.
Are you satisfied with the level of communication you receive from the school and how they engage parents?
Yes, we are. The parent portal is very thorough with regular updates. There is a dedicated class page as well as a private student page for each child. This is extremely helpful and informative, especially in these unprecedented times.
In addition, the school has done a great job in decorating the common areas that parents access when dropping off and picking up, which gives us a glimpse of what the children have been up to. As COVID restrictions begin to ease, we look forward to more face-to-face interactions with the staff and other parents as well as school events.
Thank you, Chris and Georgina!
