Get the fam to step out of their comfort zone and go beyond the classroom this school holiday with these super fun hidden gem activities on Pelago…
There’s no shortage of fun things you can do with the family in Singapore. Exciting playgrounds (both indoors and out), beautiful parks, and cool museums – just to name a few! Since we at HoneyKids HQ are an adventurous bunch, we sometimes love to venture off the beaten path for some out-of-the-ordinary experiences.
We’re talking about family outings to lesser known places on the Little Red Dot, as well as activities that give us the chance to explore and learn about Singapore through different lenses. Plus, there’s no better time than the school holidays to go beyond the classroom to be curious, get creative, and develop courage through unique experiences. And you know what’s awesome? There are loads of ‘hidden gem’ kinds of experiences suitable for families – you just need to know where to look for ‘em! Pelago, a travel experiences platform by Singapore Airlines, is a great way for you to discover and plan your next unique family adventure. Here are cool ideas we found on Pelago that could fit into your school holiday plans.
1. Explore a hidden marine world at Singapore’s coastal backyard
Take a break from city life and head to Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve to explore Singapore’s rich coastal marine life. This guided tour by Young Nautilus will bring you and the kiddos on an adventure through the intertidal zones (where the ocean meets land between high and low tide) and mangrove forest. The kids will get to build their curiosity as they learn about animals from seven local habitats. Keep your eyes peeled for marine creatures like starfish, horseshoe crab, and maybe even a water monitor lizard (from a safe distance, of course)!

2. Have a cuddling session with some adorable pugs
Be warned: You may find it really difficult to leave this cafe after your visit. As its name suggests, What The Pug is a cafe with extremely cute pugs that are super happy to meet you and your fam! These resident pugs are really friendly and good with kids, a great place for your little ones to build confidence and get up close and personal with some doggos. The cafe also has yummy treats for fellow hoo-mans as well, in case you and the kids need some pick-me-up while cuddling with these cute pugs.

3. Visit an insect farm and meet the mysterious black soldier fly
In the neighbourhood of Queenstown is an insect farm where the mighty black soldier fly lives. It may look really tiny, but don’t underestimate this lil’ soldier as it could be the superhero we need to solve the world’s waste problems! The black soldier fly is a zero waste warrior with a huge appetite, always out looking for organic waste to chomp on. You and the kids will get to see an army of black soldier flies in action at Insectta, the country’s first insect farm of its kind. This is an invaluable educational journey for both parents and children, with lessons on sustainability that you can take home.

Did you know that you can create works of art with Newton’s laws of motion? Experience a different kind of art jamming at Motion Art Space, where science and aesthetics collide to form one-of-a-kind art pieces. This is a great activity that can boost you and your kid’s creativity, as you’ll be given a chance to try unusual painting tools like the pendulum, spinner, and trapeze. Plus, it’s a fantastic way to bond with the kids. Just be prepared to get messy! No prior knowledge of Physics needed!
