Stamford American’s Middle Years Programme (MYP) encourages constructive, critical thinking and helps students thrive in the Diploma Programme…
In today’s world, success is measured not only by academic performance but also by an ability to make decisions and deal with real-life problems with confidence. That’s why it’s important for your child to have a solid foundation that will give them the skills they need to thrive in and out of the classroom. If this is the sort of programme you’re looking for, we say check out Stamford American International School’s MYP (Middle Years Programme). It develops kids into constructive, critical thinkers who are able to work with others, manage their time and solve problems. It also helps them thrive in the DP (IB Diploma Programme)! But don’t just take our word for it – HoneyKids recently had a chat with Jordan, a Grade 12 student at Stamford, on how the MYP helped set him up for success in the DP:
How has the MYP at Stamford helped you in your studies overall?
The MYP places a strong focus on reflection as a component of every assignment. Through this, I was able to use my critical thinking skills. This particular skill was useful in components of the DP such as the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS). The MYP at Stamford also provided me with a foundation in all subjects and as a result, I felt that I was able to start the DP with my best foot forward.
Is the MYP at Stamford useful for students who want to do the DP?
The MYP is a good indication of the grading practices in the DP. Learning how to achieve different levels of the grade bands in the MYP gave me an understanding of how I should approach assignments in the DP.
What was your favourite part of the MYP at Stamford?
The culminating project of the MYP, the Personal Project, provided me with an opportunity to think independently and explore an area of my own personal interest. This took my learning in the area I chose, environmental sustainability, to a more thorough level.
