And that’s not all - it also won the public vote in the Teacher and Principal of the Year Award categories! Here’s how they did it...
Big doesn’t always mean best when it comes to schools. A smaller school has the benefits of students being heard, accepted and nurtured, and that’s exactly what our Best Small School of Singapore award wanted to recognise.
Why International Community School (Singapore) won the award
International Community School (Singapore) (ICS) has the best of both worlds. Its smaller size means its students benefit from a close-knit community with a very low student-teacher ratio, providing quality and holistic education that rivals bigger schools. But it’s not simply just a case of teachers knowing students’ names and the family feel at ICS (although that’s definitely on offer); ICS students continuously score higher in their MAP scores too. In fact, they score higher than the global average for AP courses, demonstrating how successful ICS is at preparing its students for a promising future.
It doesn’t stop there – ICS won gold for the Student Wellbeing Award too!
Alongside academic success, students feel well-supported in all aspects of their lives at ICS. Caring for the wellbeing of its students is among the school’s core values, so it’s no surprise that they also were the top pick for the Student Wellbeing Award. The judges were impressed by the school’s holistic approach and how a focus on wellbeing is embedded into all aspects of the curriculum – from social-emotional counselling programs to the year-long service learning program.
And let’s talk about the teaching staff and leadership team…
What makes a great school? Its leadership team and teaching staff, of course! It’s a testament to a school when both your teachers and principals scoop the public vote for the Teacher and Principal of the Year, and that’s exactly what ICS achieved in the Singapore Education Awards this year. Congratulations to Middle School and High School Principal Mr. Darryl Harding, Mr. Elmer Dizon (Grade 4 teacher – Elementary), and Mr. Jean-Loup Francois at ICS (Middle School), who were all recognised for the positive impact they make on the lives of their students.
Congratulations, International Community School (Singapore)!
