The school may have a new name, but it remains committed to its vision and mission. Plus, it’s rolling out an all-new Summer School programme, too!
News flash: Hillside World Academy is now HWA International School! The announcement was recently made by the school, marking an important turning point in its history ever since its establishment in 2006. Naturally, we’re curious to know the significance of this name change for the school, which is one of the leading international schools in Singapore. Here’s what we found out.
What’s in a name?
One of the first things we wanted to know was the meaning behind the school’s new name. According to HWA, “HWA” is pronounced like the Chinese word “华” (huá), which refers to Chinese and Chinese culture. This couldn’t be more apt, as Hillside World Academy was established as a Chinese cultural school almost two decades ago. The school’s new name serves to solidify its emphasis on Chinese language learning and cultural heritage, which is one of its distinguishing features.
What can parents expect from HWA?
Parents will be happy to know that HWA will continue to uphold the global vision that integrates Eastern and Western values through the International Baccalaureate (IB) philosophy. The school remains committed to its mission of cultivating global citizens with leadership, innovation, and social responsibility values. At the same time, it will also continue to focus on developing its students’ bilingual skills, as well as the appreciation and transmission of Chinese cultural values.
A school representative explained further: “Rest assured that HWA will continue to strive to provide comprehensive academic, cultural, and personal development opportunities to help students achieve their dreams and become promising young people in this globalised era.”
Students can experience multiculturalism through HWA’s new Summer School programme
On top of the name change, HWA is also introducing its new Summer School programme for children ages six to 16. Summer School @ HWA is a multifaceted holiday programme that allows children to dabble in a variety of courses, ranging from language learning, STEM education, arts, music, sports, and more. But that’s not all; the programme also includes outdoor adventures and cultural visits to make learning fun, exciting, and relatable. Not only do kids get to pick up new skills and knowledge, but the summer programme also provides them with the opportunity to learn in a multicultural environment.
Summer School @ HWA will run in four batches: 3-14 July, 17-28 July, 31 July-11 August, and 14-25 August 2023. Interested parents can contact its Admissions Team for more details.
