New and free space perfect for role-play
Play is very important. It’s just that sometimes there’s not enough room. Play is messy, disorganized, big and loud. And if you just can’t bear it at home some days, then we have the perfect place to go. Because it would be a shame if you missed out on play’s best attribute: fun!
PLAY is a 700 square-metre space at the National Museum of Singapore and it has just opened its doors in time for the holidays. This interactive 700 square metre space is role-play to the max for three to seven-year-olds. Kids can let their imagination run as wild as their little feet can carry them when they explore, create and perform within its dedicated spaces. Foster the first steps of museum-going and curiosity and discover what’s on offer just as we did…
EXPLORE living in the real world
Children love to do what adults do and here they can do just that. Through a series of rooms, just like at home, your kids can immerse themselves in domestic life and Singapore culture.
In the Living Room, items are larger-than-life and children can appear on television. Take a happy snap on the giant armchair and perform short skits with shadow puppets.
In the Kitchen, budding chefs can happily bang pots and pans together as they throw carrots, broccoli and chicken around to whip up a stir-fry or some other concoction. Create a paper embossing of favourite foods and take it to the CREATE room for a colouring activity.
Visit the Bedroom for a dress-up extravaganza. Try on lots of multi-cultural costumes like the kebaya in the giant wardrobe. Relax and watch screenings of local short films too.
Head over to the outdoor sun deck in the Garden and play with the indoor puzzle tree. Kids can go crazy with chalk graffiti ‘on the alcove walls and stone floor and also learn more about local flora and fauna.
CREATE a personal artwork
In this dedicated artist’s room, the little ones can get their hands dirty and participate in guided activities like colouring, painting, paper crafts and more. Bring on the wet and dry mess. You don’t even need to clean up!
PERFORM and build confidence
Whether your child is a little performer or a wallflower, they’ll all love and benefit from the chance to act out an impromptu story. This specially curated room allows children to unleash and harness their creative potential in the performing arts. Kids can also build confidence and enhance their communication skills – hmm, better keep this one in check!
What we love most about PLAY? Entry to this kid-friendly wonderland is free, so you and your tots can keep coming back to play and learn. Happy exploring!
