We swung by Dover Court International School to experience its culture and speak to its team. Here’s a peek into the school’s culture and curriculum.
Schooling years are some of the most important for our kid’s development, which means choosing the right school is key. So we visited Dover Court International School on our hunt for a well-equipped, mid-size school with a nurturing and inclusive community – plus a challenging curriculum that encourages students to grow. We also caught up with Dover Court International School’s Head of Primary, Kara Lebihan, and Head of Secondary, Craig Bull, to learn more about the school.
Primary school: Nurturing young minds
Parents, if you’re worried about your child’s first day jitters, take heart in the fact that the community here will welcome your little ones with open arms. “Our school is warm and welcoming, and there is a feeling of community which we pride ourselves upon. We know our students and their families,” Kara shares. In no time, your kiddos would be running around in the play areas and having fun learning in the classrooms and other learning spaces!
From the EYFS provision to the IBDP, the school provides a motivating and challenging curriculum, based on the English National Curriculum. Beyond the classrooms, the school’s extra-curricular offerings enables students to explore their interests in sports, performing arts and more. Look out for highlights including sports competitions (they compete locally and internationally!), school productions and Dover Court proms.
And what’s the best part about leading this vibrant and inclusive school? Kara says, “My favourite part of each day is undoubtedly welcoming our students and their families to school each morning. No days start in the same way – and I simply love talking to the children about Granny arriving, a birthday party and even wobbly teeth!”
Secondary school: Setting students up for success
The team at Dover Court International School takes pride in helping students achieve their goals. Teachers here don’t just teach, they also engage the kids in goal-setting sessions and monitor their progress. “We set students aspirational goals and targets and support them in and out of the classroom to achieve these. This is why, on average, we support students to make at least half a grade more progress than they are expected to achieve,” Craig tells us.
With such a supportive system, it’s no wonder the students here produce great results. “Our GCSE results this year showed students made significantly more progress than the UK average!” Thanks to the team’s drive for the highest quality of teaching, students are set up for success when they take their examinations in Years 10 and 11.
And students can expect more amazing learning opportunities ahead! ”In Years 12 and 13, we offer three main programmes; the IBDP in which our students are achieving well above the World Average, IB courses where students study stand-alone IB subjects equivalent at HL to an A-Level, and a vocational programme currently consisting of BTEC Business with a view to expand this offer as we grow,” Craig says.
