The school’s STEAM Fair is back on 8 March from 11am to 3pm with a variety of exciting hands-on STEAM activities for kids (and parents) to try out.
Fab news: The Canadian International School (CIS) STEAM Fair is back on 8 March, promising loads of interactive activities and games for the whole family from 11am till 3pm.
We know from past CIS STEAM Fairs that the learning expo is always packed with tech-riffic fun, and this year is no different. You can expect engaging hands-on STEAM activities that are thoughtfully designed and led by CIS educators, from programming VR worlds to dancing with robots.
CIS faculty members will be there to share about the school’s innovative teaching methods. You’ll also get to explore the campus and see how these teaching methods – such as AI-powered learning – are made possible with the school’s state-of-the-art facilities.
What can families expect from the CIS STEAM Fair 2025?
The CIS STEAM Fair has activities and games for kids as young as two years old. With age appropriate activities like sand exploration, cardboard craft, creating colourful ice sculptures, and building a spiderweb city for the little ones, don’t be surprised if you find them hooked and hesitant to leave. On the other hand, ‘big kids’ will have fun with programming robots, designing holograms, making draw bots, and more.
Parents are not forgotten too. Mums and dads can enjoy classic fair rides, live performances, and do some shopping from a variety of vendors at the fair. So don’t miss the CIS STEAM Fair, register now to attend it this 8 March from 11am to 3pm.
So what exactly is STEAM education, and why is it important for kids?

STEAM education refers to a learning approach that combines science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics. Instead of learning them in isolation, STEAM education focuses on the interconnectedness of the five disciplines. This approach allows students to explore STEAM subjects in a hands-on and creative way, which helps them develop essential skills like problem solving, critical thinking, and teamwork.
One of the core benefits of STEAM education is that it prepares children for real-world challenges. As technology reshapes industries and global challenges grow more complex, the workforce of the future requires critical thinkers and creative problem solvers who are adaptable. STEAM education teaches kids to consider real-world problems as a whole to solve them through innovative methods.
STEAM education is at the core of CIS

Understanding the importance of STEAM education, CIS has adopted this approach into its International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum and teaching philosophy since more than a decade ago. In fact, it is the first school in Singapore to do so.
CIS STEAM ambassador Sophie Shiel shared, “At CIS, STEAM is about demonstrating how the five disciplines intertwine in real-world applications. The goal of this learning approach is to help students transfer knowledge effectively, and recognise that no subject operates in isolation – building on the IB’s emphasis on interdisciplinary learning.”
But what sets CIS apart is that the school doesn’t limit STEAM learning to within its classroom walls. Students are given opportunities to learn outside the classroom and tackle real-world problems. Their STEAM learning experience is also enhanced with access to high tech facilities and makerspaces on campus, as well as advanced teaching technologies. “We leverage on cutting-edge technologies, including AI-powered learning and a variety of innovative teaching methods to enrich our students’ learning experiences,” Ms. Shiel explained.
You’ll get to see just that at the CIS STEAM Fair this 8 March while the kids are kept busy with STEAM activities – learning all five disciplines in the same way as CIS students do.

Another thing that differentiates the STEAM learning approach at CIS is that it fosters initiative. Students are encouraged to explore their interests, ask questions, and design their own solutions. “Whether it’s using LEGO and colour theory to explore mathematical concepts, or combining geometry and coding to create digital art – our students take the lead in their learning journey,” Ms. Shiel added.
