What’s On This Week: 30 Sept – 6 Oct 2013
Children’s Day is this week – and this means lots of cool activities to do with the kids. Take your pick of the free festivals, crafting, superhero activity and polar bear visits – its a big week of entertainment! We have even found a Halloween themed robotics workshop, how cool is that!
If you love Shakespeare like we writers do (hi-five!), take the kids out for a night of outrageous comedy with The Taming of the Shrew (2-13 Oct). Step into a time machine at the Fort Canning Park back to the Elizabethan era (thought it’s probably a lot cleaner than it was!), and wow them with the girl power of an all-female cast.
Octoburst 2013 (4-6 Oct), the Esplanade’s annual Children’s Day festival, has loads of free arty activities for the munchkins to take part in. There are also ticketed programmes like Making Stories, Telling Tales (for some great storytelling and crafting shadow puppets!) and Moon Balloon, which makes an amazing theatrical experience for the kids.
If the kiddos are animal lovers, get frosty at the Singapore Zoo (4-5 Oct) with polar bears and friends at the Frozen Tundra exhibit! If marine life (we just love sharks and sea otters) is more your thing, you’ll be delighted to know that Marine Life Park at Resorts World Sentosa will be launching their Dolphin Discovery programme on 30th of September. For something milder with a dose of old-timey fun, head down to Pasir Ris Kid’s Kampong (4-6 Oct) for some longkang (drain) fishing, duck feeding, and a pet show.
Fans of the whimsical will love U Picnic 2013 (5 Oct), the largest family picnic event in Singapore! This year’s edition features sky ballet dancing, unicorn riding and other sparkly activities our little princesses will love. On the other hand, the little men of the house would love the Superhero Children’s Day (5 Oct) party at Sentosa Cove, where they get to design their own superhero costumes, ‘nuff said.
As much as we love kids, we know parents need their space too! Dads, take mama out on a coffee date, or many coffee dates (she needs them), with the artisan Coffee Crawl during Bettr Week 2013! Better still; opt for an adults-only lunch party with us at HAN! Indulge in a fun (really, we promise!) afternoon (read: escape from the minis) of exquisite Japanese food and shopping . After all, it’s nice to eat with both hands again after spending the week bouncing your bubba on your lap during most meals.
What comes after Children’s Day? Yep, the mid-term break for international schools. Need to keep your kids constructively engaged? Sign them up for Camp Asia – it’ll be an action-packed week of arts and crafts, sports and performing arts! Alternatively, make a date with iCamp for a Halloween-themed robotics workshop – it’ll drum up some hype for Halloween!
