What sets Chatsworth apart from other schools that provide Early Years’ programmes?
Early Years’ programmes can alter significantly from country to country and from school to school. As a committed IB PYP school, we adhere closely to the philosophy and principles of the IB PYP. We believe that children are natural enquirers – that’s why our learning process enables them to follow their natural curiosity!
In our Early Childhood Centre at Chatsworth, you see the kids exploring the world through play and language, with teachers facilitating in an engaging way. Every child is seen and treated as an individual, with strong trusting relationships between them and the teachers. Within these intimate, nurturing homerooms, the children feel safe while enjoying learning.
What can learners and parents look forward to in your opening of the Early Childhood Centre?
Built over the summer break, you can now look forward to a custom-made facility with excellent resources, a strong curriculum and hand-chosen early childhood specialist staff.
Our new centre comprises three new classrooms with children’s bathrooms very close at hand. Each room is outfitted to allow the teacher and teaching assistant to deliver the curriculum as planned. The exterior doors open onto an enclosed early childhood-friendly playground: one section with a sandpit and structural play equipment, and the other reserved for water play.
The centre can be accessed via a stairway situated adjacent to the school’s front gate, making the drop-off quick and easy for parents, too!
Tell us about the community that you’re building at Chatsworth.
We’ve been around for over 25 years and families often cite the ‘positive community culture’ as one of our strengths. There has been constant and strong leadership – everyone on our team is on the same page about what makes a positive and inclusive community in a school!
What is your vision for the Early Childhood Centre?
We want to provide the children with a strong foundation to become self-driven, independent learners. By providing a specialist Early Childhood Centre, we are focusing on the importance of quality, early childhood education to empower children to make the very best of their abilities later in life.
What’s your philosophy towards education?
Although my educational philosophy has been tweaked over the years, some aspects have always remained constant. I believe that a primary school is somewhere where we help children develop into confident and capable individuals, who understand what they need to do to be successful secondary students and later, adults.
I believe a strong curriculum should focus on both foundation skills and inquiry. But there should also be opportunities that train students in creative thinking and skills needed in a quick-changing world.
We enjoy life more when we are loved and respected by those around us, so culture is really important as well. School is as much about socialisation as it is about academics. It is about learning to respect and celebrate differences, and learning how to communicate in diverse situations. School should be a safe place, as well as a place that’s filled with fun!
What do you love most about leading this school?
A school is nothing without the students and our students are amazing! They are smart, caring, compassionate, funny and each one of them brings something unique to the school. Combined with our team’s dedication, this makes Chatsworth a very special place. Our staff are all committed to putting the students first, making Chatsworth is a great place to grow and work.
