Drawn by its emphasis on global citizenship and outstanding academic reputation, the van den Bosch family were happy to enrol their children at CIS...
Aside from having a stellar academic track record, Marjolein and Ton van den Bosch wanted a school that’s supportive for their children. Hence they enrolled their children at the Canadian International School (CIS), a school that not only has an excellent reputation for producing academically successful students, but also students who are able to thrive in any country around the world. Here’s what they shared with us:
Hello Marjolein and Ton, tell us a bit about your children.
Our son Quirijn is in Grade 9, and our daughter Saar is in Grade 6 at CIS’ Lakeside campus. Before moving to Singapore around five years ago, Quirijn and Saar were at the International School Manila in Taguig (Metro Manila) in the Philippines.
What were the most important factors for you in selecting a school for Quirijn and Saar, and what made you finally decide on CIS?
We wanted a school that not only has an outstanding academic reputation, but also one that offers an inclusive and supportive environment, a welcoming community, drama and dance studios, a theatre, great sport facilities, and outdoor learning. Another important factor was that – in addition to students from Canada – there are students from 70 different nationalities. With an emphasis on global citizenship, CIS is truly unique.
What curriculum does the school offer?
Secondary School at CIS is delivered to Grades 7 to 10 within the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IB MYP) framework; while students in Grades 11 to 12 study the internationally recognised IB Diploma Programme (IBDP). We understand graduating classes score very well and the acceptances at top universities in the US, Europe, the UK, Australia, and elsewhere are a testament to this.
What do your children like most about attending CIS?
Our children truly enjoy the inquiry based approach to learning and the friends they have made from all over the world. They further particularly like Outdoor Learning: from field trips and Open Minds in primary school to the field investigations and excursion week in secondary school.
Has the school lived up to your expectations?
Yes, absolutely! We love that we immediately felt welcome. The teachers also made an extra effort to make our children feel at home. The teachers and faculty at CIS are responsive, very motivated and real sources of support and encouragement for the students. We are confident that CIS prepares our children with skills that will enable them to thrive anywhere in the world, whether it is in our home country the Netherlands, somewhere in the Americas, or elsewhere here in Asia.
Thank you, Marjolein and Ton!
