Borrow books and answer quizzes to collect points, redeem cards, and rescue the Book Bugs!
Everyone loves games – and as parents, there is nothing we love more than finding a wholesome, educational game that is fun and engaging for the kids. So if you are looking for a family-friendly game for kids, check out Book Bugs – a collectible card game designed by the National Library Board to cultivate a love of reading among children.
What’s Book Bugs about?
Something strange and terrible is happening in Bugtopia, and you may just be the rescuer they need! In the latest edition of Book Bugs: Rescuers Of Stories Lost, Attie, Bugtopia’s journalist, noticed that Book Bugs are slowly disappearing from the four lands of Bugtopia. To get to the bottom of this mystery and rescue the Book Bugs, Attie needs YOUR help!
Want to join the rescue mission? Here’s what you need to do…
1. Start your adventure by earning points
You’ll need points to start your Book Bugs rescue mission, so make sure you have a myLibrary account to start earning them. You can earn points by:
- Borrowing physical books and eBooks from your nearest public library. You’ll earn a point for each library item you borrow, with a maximum of 16 points per day for physical books and eight points a day for eBooks.
- Complete the monthly quizzes to earn extra points!
2. Redeem your Book Bugs cards
Got your points? Great! You can now use these points to redeem as many Book Bugs cards as you can! Just login to your myLibrary account on the NLB Mobile app and select the number of Book Bugs cards you want to redeem. You’ll receive a QR code and eight-digit pin code through email or the app, which you can then use to collect your cards from the Book Bugs dispenser at selected public libraries.
You can check out the full list and release schedule of Book Bugs character cards here. Psst… new Book Bugs cards will be launched in May, July, and September, so continue earning points to redeem them when they’re out!
3. Get ready to play!
Now that you have a deck of cards with you, you’re all set for a fun-tastic family card game! Download and print the Book Bugs game mat, gather a few family members and friends, and have fun!
