After a fun outdoorsy afternoon with the kids? Learn From a Master Sandcastle Builder at this unique workshop
In Singapore, if you can dream it, you can build it. Just look at ION, Marina Bay Sands, The Interlace and the Pinnacle at Duxton. Or a Shophouse or Black and White house for that matter. So it goes for sandcastles too. We don’t mean your average grainy mound topped with shells and sticks. We mean the kind you’d sculpt for a princess. Like Elsa, if she loved the beach and not the ice. Well, in Singapore there is a man that can help make that dream a reality.
Joo Heng Tan is a world champion sand sculptor. His detailed sculptures of cathedrals, 12 metre tall Asian statues and excavated dinosaurs have helped him win three World Champion Titles and led to invitations to direct sand sculpting festivals around the globe.
However, when his busy schedule allows, Joo Heng will meet you on the beach at Sentosa and share with you his bright green sculpting tools and knowledge of the art of sand sculpting. Make no mistake though, this ain’t just for kids.
Over the course of two hours, Joo Heng will help you schlepp buckets of water from the foreshore and create a tower of sand. He will then guide you on how to cut, pat and smooth the grains into the formation of a Disney fantasy. Or any other creation you have imagined building to wow the crowd at your favourite resort. Or just the kids really.
Despite excited shout-outs from passing fans, Joo Heng is unassuming, focused and generous with his skill during his private sessions. He is also incredibly patient for a world champion. Particpants walk away feeling very accomplished, if not exactly able to build a house of bricks. A house of sand will do.
