The June school holidays are upon us and you know what that means… It’s time to plan a real bonding sesh with your family and we’ve got just the place for you! The ArtScience Museum at Marina Bay Sands is packing loads of exciting new activities inspired by superheroes, with Marvel Studios: Ten Years of Heroes opening on 9 June. That’s not all – if you haven’t already explored Future World: Where Art Meets Science, now’s your chance. From 26 May to 8 June, kids enjoy free entry with every paying adult to the exhibition. Marvel Studios: Ten Years of Heroes
From 9 June
If you are still reeling from the shocker that was Avengers: Infinity War, this should fan the flames of every Marvel comics fan: Marvel Studios: Ten Years of Heroes is an interactive showcase celebrating the Marvel Cinematic Universe and that includes box-office smashes Black Panther and Thor: Ragnarok! Geek out to a special sneak peek of the upcoming Ant-Man and the Wasp movie, and don’t miss the exhibition’s blow-by-blow of the art and science behind each of Marvel Studios’ blockbusters.
School Holiday Specials: Homegrown Heroes
From 26 May – 24 June, various locations
Got a ‘lil comic book lover at home? They will positively be begging you to sign them up for these exciting lineup of superhero-themed activities. First up, Stan Lee wannabes can learn all about the basics of illustrating comics and cartoons at Cartoons & Comics Masterclasses with Hong Shin (29 May – 30 June), led by local artist Quek Hong Shin. Becoming a bona fide superhero starts from within and if you’d like to empower your little ones through creativity, Superhero Me Sundays (10, 17 and 24 June) is where you should be. This fun and inclusive programme includes a series of creative craft activities that’ll teach ‘em how to express their inner heroes, such as making their very own armour, crafting friendship bracelets for their friends and designing a DIY kaleidoscope.
ArtScience On Screen: Animal Powers
From 30 May, Expression Gallery, Level 4
Even ordinary folks can save the day: Watch how unassuming characters like Cicak Man and Gagamboy defend their loved ones from nefarious foes at this free screening of superhero films. In case you’re wondering, these popular films from Malaysia and the Philippines explore how normal, everyday denizens become heroes in their own right – with the help of familiar animal friends. June School Holiday Workshops
From 1 June – 22 June, various locations
The fun doesn’t just stop with the Marvel Universe – ArtScience Museum’s got more workshops that’ll keep both the young and the young-at-heart occupied. Express Yourself (1 June) gives you the opportunity to use mediums ranging from drawing to mixed media as artistic tools in creating a dialogue around important issues. Pretty heavy stuff? We think not! If you are inspired by Future World and know what a spectrophotometer is, Light & Colour (8 and 22 June) is where you can learn all about the different spectrums of light. Want to expand your creative juices? There’s still the Make Your Own Tote Bag (15 June) workshop, a one-hour sesh that lets you personalise your tote bag with any combination of prints inspired by Future World. Neat!
