Awesome activities await at Science Fest
Science is cool – didn’t you know? Don’t take our word for it. Check out the ‘rock star’ scientists of the Singapore Science Festival. With one week to go of this amazing celebration of all things that go pop, boom, bang, grab your lab coats at and head to one of the eye-opening events scheduled. There are some totally surprising experiments but one thing that is guaranteed is that your kids will have wide eyes and open mouths!
Rhys Thomas’ Science Circus
Think science is boring? Think again. At the Science Circus shows conducted by Rhys, comedic stunts will display the intricacies of Newtonian physics like never before. Expect lots of audience interaction in this hilarious edutainment show that will leave your children amazed by the wonders of science.

Singapore Mini Maker Faire
Back for the third year running, the Singapore Mini Maker Faire celebrates DIY culture with a variety of interesting 3D cardboard dinosaur sculptures by Bartholomew Ting. Besides these, the Faire will also feature homemade robots and spark machines. Sounds like an electrifying time for the entire fam!
Singapore Mini Maker Faire is on 26 July, 12pm-9pm, and 27 July, 10am-6pm, at Senja-Cashew Community Centre. Pre-register here and receive an exclusive Maker Kit when you arrive. Entry is free.
Feeding Frenzy Trail
Head over to the South East Asia (S.E.A.) Aquarium for an exclusive inside peek at what goes on behind the glass walls. You’ll start off with morning rounds with the friendly Marine Guides to see where and how food for the majestic inhabitants of the world’s largest oceanarium are prepared. You might even grab a chance to feed the fishes in their various habitats! Children should be six years old and above, and adults are welcome to join in the fun.
Feeding Frenzy Trail will be held on 27-28 July and 9-10 August. Pre-registration is required. Email [email protected] (quote ‘Feeding Frenzy Trail – SSF 2014) in email subject. Fee is $20 (excluding admission fee to S.E.A. Aquarium).
A Day In The Life Of A Paleontologist
Always wanted to know what happened to the dinosaurs? In this hands-on demonstration at the ArtScience Museum, kids will don their intrepid paleontologist’s hats and sift through sand and clay to uncover “long-lost” fossils. They’ll be hard at work identifying the bones of different dinos, and will even go home with a souvenir: a handmade plaster cast of a dinosaur’s footprint.
A Day In The Life Of A Paleontologist will be held on 28 July, 4:30pm, at the ArtScience Museum’s Creatory Space. Entry is free (excluding admission fee to Dinosaurs: Dawn to Extinction exhibition).
Painting With Light: Cyanotypes
Join this workshop to uncover the mysteries of light together with your little one, as you learn more about one of the oldest photographic processes and create a beautiful ‘blueprint’ to take home. Children under the age of six will love this fun-filled activity!
Painting With Light: Cyanotypes will be held on 26 July and 2 August, 1:30pm-2:30pm at the ArtScience Museum, Education Space at Level B1. Entry is free.
Sci-Fi Movie Screening & Forums
Here’s a good one if you have older kids: the Sci-Fi Movie Screening & Forums will be showing Oblivion and Pacific Rim in the next few days. After the screening, children will participate in a Q&A session with a panel of scientists from tertiary institutions and research institutes in Singapore. It’s the best time to get all those tricky questions about how gravity works answered!
Oblivion will be screened on 26 July, 7pm-10pm at Tampines Central Community Centre, and Pacific Rim will be screened on 29 July, 2pm-5:30pm at Central Public Library. To RSVP, email [email protected] or call 64252591. Entry is free.
