Boutiques at the Pit Building is back! Before you shop, here are our 10 golden rules (and our lust list!)
The countdown is on: Boutiques at the Pit Building is back early this year with a special spring 2016 edition! This is Singapore’s biggest and best shopping fest of independent brands offering fashion, homewares, accessories, jewellery, toys and baby and kids wear – if you’re looking for beautiful, unique buys, this is it, people. Clear your diaries for Friday March 11, 9am to 8pm and Saturday March 12, 9am to 6pm!
We love that Boutique Fairs Singapore remains dedicated to socially responsible practices (over 85% of the vendors are socially conscious businesses). This shopping event will also support eight local and regional charities, including the Humanitarian Organization for Migration Economics (HOME) and Babes Pregnancy Crisis Support. Feel-good shopping at its best, folks.
With a load of exclusive collection launches and incredible hand-picked fashion and accessories, our bet is that this spring edition will be the best one yet. But, even if you’re a seasoned Boutiques shopper, there are a few golden rules you must know…
RULE #1: Don’t bring your husband/boyfriend/love interest: this can put your browsing time at risk and purchases may be vetoed.
RULE #2: Do save your pennies: you WILL make impulse purchases. And don’t worry about running out of cold hard cash – you can pay for all your goodies with your credit card and come back to collect your purchases.
RULE #3: Do come in clothes that make it easy to try on new threads, and don’t do anything complicated with your hair that will compromise your ability to try on all the panamas from Hat of Cain.
RULE #4: Don’t tell yourself you’ll just pop in for a quick look – this edition has more than 150 vendors!
RULE #5: Do bring your girlfriends – everyone needs an enabler, and someone you can trust enough to ask: ‘does my butt look big in this kaftan?’
RULE #6: And do bring a roomy bag to sneak home your many purchases. Which are likely to include a fab new bag.
RULE #7: Don’t get a fresh mani beforehand: The Nail Social, which trains and employs local underprivileged women, will be there giving express manis! Children can also get an express manicure using organic, kid-friendly polish. Bonus fun!
RULE #8: Do stay and enjoy the fab treats by Cedele. Need to perk up? Workspace Espresso Bar will be there. And pssst: Pop Up Wine will be at Boutiques! Go with the girls on Friday for a women-only wine tasting class from 6-7pm. If you must bring the husband, drop him off at the men-only Shiraz tasting (3-4pm) on the Saturday, or join him for the fun blind wine tasting for couples from 5-6pm. All wine tasting classes are $35 per person.
RULE #9: Do bring the kids! Saturday is ‘family day’ at Boutiques: there will be a play area for the kids to enjoy – and you’ll want them there to try on all the cute kids’ gear on offer. See below: we NEED those dinosaur harem pants from Baby Style Icon.
RULE #10: Do your research and check out the vendors before the event so you can decide what to splurge on (and then some)! At risk of you snapping up all the goodies on our lust list, here are just a few things we’re coveting that are too good not to share…
