My Awesome Café
Find yourself in the CBD area with the kids early on a Monday morning? There’s My Awesome Café serving up brunch favourites like buttery croissants with scrambled eggs, as well as great coffee choices. The CBD may not be the most kid-friendly area to begin with, but at least this spot provides highchairs.

Baker & Cook
This café gets a mention not only for the always delicious pastries and breads and ideal opening time, but because of its proximity to Watten Estate Park. Space is at a premium here now that the outdoor tables are no longer available but the best idea is to grab coffee and croissants and head to the playground around the corner.

Hatched
You and your little ones can’t get enough of eggs? Have them any way you like here. Baked, boiled, scrambled, poached, fried – we could go on and on. Bonus point: Hatched’s really near the Botanic Gardens so you could take a slow stroll with the kids in park after (or better yet, before, so you can work up an appetite).
Highchair – Yes
Toys/Paper & Pencils – Yes, a small selection

Riders Café
We really feel like we’ve gotten away from it all when we come here. No through traffic, lush foliage and the chance to observe equestrians as they go about riding and grooming horses, all adds up to a calming effect on us. Riders Café sits in the compound of the Bukit Timah Saddle Club and serves a delicious breakfast as well as a great outing for kids.
Highchair – Yes
Toys/Paper & Pencils – No
Play Area – Not exactly, but you could sign the kids up for a couple of pony rides
Riders Café, 51 Fairways Drive, Singapore 286965, p. 6466 9819. Open Sun-Thu 8am-9pm, Fri-Sat 8am-10pm.
Boomarang Bistro & Bar
Serving up Australian fare, Boomarang is one of the few places in Singapore that operate early and close only in the wee hours of the morning. It’s essentially a bar at night, but many aren’t aware of this hidden gem when it comes to weekday breakfast. Whether you’re after something healthy like a wholemeal toast with avocado, or something heartier, like steak and eggs, you’ll find it here.
Highchair – Yes
Toys/Paper & Pencils – No
Play Area – Plenty of room to scooter along the river but you will need to supervise little ones
Boomarang Bistro & Bar, #01-15 The Quayside, 60 Robertson Quay, Singapore 238252, p. 6738 1077. Open daily 7am-3am.
Red Star Restaurant
Fancy something else other than poached eggs, pancakes and coffee? Head to Red Star Restaurant for a Hong Kong-style breakfast with a lovely dim sum spread. Take your pick from the pushcart trolleys and go for items like siew mai, char siew bao and carrot cake. This is novelty factor for kids who don’t mind being a little adventurous.

Red Star Restaurant, #07-23, 54 Chin Swee Road, Singapore 160054, p. 6532 5266. Open daily 7am-3pm, 6pm-10pm.
Common Man Coffee Roasters
This is a little bit more of an upmarket offering in terms of food quality but never fear – you can still fit right in with flip flops and a singlet. Bistro-quality nosh is matched with top-notch coffee and everything is organic, of course. We sincerely believe they do the best pancakes in Singapore, too. This one is more suitable for big kids as it can be a bit pokey for littlies. It’s also a tad noisy so head outside if you’re after some calm.

Delicious grub and lots of room to roam in the Botanic Gardens – who can say no to that? This casual trattoria offers a mix of Western-European bites and local favourites, including corned beef and poached eggs, as well as mee siam and laksa. Choupinette
Situated on Bukit Timah Road alongside other dining spots such as My Little Spanish Place, this is a quaint French-inspired café with a wood-heavy interior and picture frame-filled walls. They make a mighty good rendition of the classic eggs benedict and we think no one can resist their divine desserts (even if it is 8 in the morning) and freshly baked bread.

Food for Thought
Another dining spot in Botanic Gardens; you can go for the more innovative creations (such as French toast with fresh cream and spiced gula Melaka syrup) while the little ones tuck into something from the “Food for Tots” menu, like the nut and soy-free pancake with mixed berries. No need to rush your food either – there is a climbing frame outside for the kids and you can see them through the large glass windows.
Highchair – Yes
Toys/Paper & Pencils – Sometimes they do provide them – check with the staff or call ahead if it’s important to you

Envy Coffee
Bright and cheery with radiant green walls and colourful mismatched furniture, this café is a breath of fresh air amongst the dozens of industrial-style coffee houses. The menu offers a mix of pasta and sarnies, with their signature smoked duck miso spaghetti shaping up to be a crowd favourite. Save some stomach space to try their daily selection of soft moist cakes.
