We got our hands on Hegen’s first ever wearable breast pump to see if it delivers what it promises: comfort and effectiveness when you pump on-the-go. Here’s our honest review.
Motherhood is a whirlwind of multi-tasking, whether it’s caring for the baby, keeping up with your daily routine, as well as work. Our teamie and new mum Natasha agrees, especially when it comes to breastfeeding and expressing milk. “I never knew how important it is to not be tied down while pumping. Being able to do laundry, or even putting my baby to sleep while I pump can actually save me 30 minutes to an hour,” she shares.
But it’s not just about productivity: we’re all about having more minutes to clock quality bonding time with our newborns. Natasha elaborates, “30 minutes saved means I have 30 more minutes to rest, and 30 more minutes to be more present as a mum.”
Herein lies the challenge of expressing milk: it often requires mums to stay stationary. Even if we’re using a pumping bra with a lightweight breast pump, we’re still limited to small and gentle movements. That’s why wearable breast pumps are such life changers, as they’re designed to let you pump on-the-go.
So when popular homegrown brand Hegen announced that it’s launching a wearable breast pump, we’ve just got to check it out. Lucky us, the HoneyKids team managed to get our hands on the Hegen Press-to-Close, Twist-to-Open (PCTO) wearable breast pump, and we’re here to break down everything you need to know about the newest pumps in town.
Hegen’s new breast pumps: Details at a glance

Priced at $450 per pair, Hegen described the pumps as “designed to meet the real needs of breastfeeding mums”: the freedom to pump as we go about our daily routine without compromising on comfort and yield.
Natasha said, “With my newborn being my priority, mobility and convenience is high on my list. I want a lightweight wearable pump that’s easy to use and easy to maintain.”
At first glance, Hegen’s PCTO Wearable Breast Pump seems to fulfil some of the needs of new mums like Natasha. It has a whopping 78 combination settings (18 stimulation modes and 60 expression modes), so every mum can find the most comfortable setting, or the one that best mimics her baby. On top of that, its silicone breast cushions are apparently designed to align with the natural shape of breasts, and the pumps have a balanced weight distribution. That means they’re gentle on your nipples, and aren’t top heavy so you can even lean forward without the pump toppling.
But most impressively, Hegen’s Wearable Breast Pumps have hospital grade suction strength. This immediately stood out for us as this is a rare feature in wearable pumps. Having hospital grade suction strength means that a pump is able to help mums express more milk quicker.
Another standout feature? You can store and feed your baby directly from the breast milk containers, as they are compatible with all of Hegen’s storage lids and feeding collars.
Our review of Hegen’s wearable breast pumps

To give you an idea of how we tested the pumps:
- Expressing milk while up and about? Check.
- Expressing milk while rocking baby to sleep? Double check.
Natasha tested the Hegen breast pumps for five consecutive days, expressing milk three times a day. She does a mix of nursing and pumping, and mainly pumps to empty out her breast before her baby’s next feed.
What we like about it: Comfort and room for personalisation
The first thing that caught Natasha’s eyes was the buttons, which are strategically located on the pump units themselves. “I love that all of the buttons are on the pump itself which makes it easy to use,” Natasha said. This is a plus point for her as the pumps are not dependent on a separate or external device. Should Nat be out and about, she can also control the settings through the Hegen Bluetooth-enabled app on her phone. She also likes the wide range of combination settings, and she could easily find the ones that suit her best.
So are the breast pumps truly comfortable as Hegen claims? Natasha found that they really are, making all of her 30-minute pump sessions very bearable when she’s doing chores or spending time with bub. Even at the pumps’ highest stimulation and expression settings, Natasha is happy to report that the experience is “always pain-free and yields a satisfying amount of milk”.

The convenience of being able to feed bub directly from the container is a big bonus for Natasha as well. “I love this added feature, especially when my baby is up from his nap and is extremely hungry. Saving that one minute of pouring into a feeding bottle creates less chaos and a happier baby,” she shared.
What we think can be improved: Pump size
Natasha shared that her first pump session while doing heavy chores didn’t turn out so well, but the issue was easily solved with a little adjustment. “The first time I pumped while mopping the floor, the yield was low and I realized it’s because the pumps shifted quite a bit. Once I fixed the placement and ensured that the nursing bra was put on properly, the next session yielded better results,” she said.
The pump’s size is the only thing Natasha feels has room for improvement. As it’s slightly bigger than her other wearable, it took her a while to get used to fitting and wearing it. “It may be quite a handful to put on, especially if you’re on the go and need to pump,” she elaborated.
Having said so, the folks at Hegen explained that this is due to the motor size, as stronger motors that provide hospital-grade suction strength are larger in size.
Our verdict: Should you get the Hegen wearable breast pump?

Put it this way: the Hegen Wearable Breast Pump could make any mum unstoppable, with a little practice. It’s comfortable, powerful, and it doesn’t get in the way of your daily routine. Whether you’re closing deals at the workplace, running the household, or spending quality time with bub – these pumps do their job well. All it takes is a bit of practice and getting used to its size.
Pro-tip: You can book Hegen’s Breast Practices workshop through its customer support, the Hegen Concierge, to learn how to set up the wearable breast pump.
The multiple settings is a lovely touch as well. Every little adjustment could mean a world of difference to each mum, be it in terms of comfort or yield. And let’s not forget the three-in-one feature that allows you to pump, feed, and store. Any mum who pumps will tell you that it hurts to spill even a tiny drop of breast milk when transferring it to storage or a feeding bottle. Hegen reduces the chances of this with this smart design.
Natasha shared, “The pump is great for any mum, be it as a main or supplementary pump. I personally think it’s most suited for mums who intend to express and bottle-feed, since you can just attach a feeding collar to the containers to transform it into a feeding bottle. The containers are able to hold sufficient milk volume and given that it’s hands-free, makes it convenient to bring around and use while you are accomplishing other tasks.”
