HoneyKids spoke with mum Komal about why her family made CIS their school of choice.
As parents, one of the toughest things on our to-do list is finding a perfect school for our kids. It’s got to tick all the right boxes: a nurturing environment that brings out the best in them, a friendly community for parents to interact and feel part of their child’s learning journey and, of course, an internationally-recognised curriculum. Which is why when we hear stories like CIS parent Komal Agrawal’s, we’re always doing mini-happy dances. Knowing that it’s possible to find the perfect school – that not only suits your child, but the whole family – is definitely a story worth sharing.
HoneyKids recently had a chat with mum Komal Agrawal about her family’s experience at CIS and why they’re so happy with their decision.
Hi Komal, could you tell us more about your daughter?
My daughter Vanya has just started Grade 3 this August at CIS’s Lakeside campus.
What were the most important factors for you in selecting a school for Vanya?
A lot of factors influenced our decision. We were looking for a school that followed the IB curriculum, that was close to where we lived and that had modern learning facilities. We also thought that finding teaching staff who were engaging was important.
What helped you make your final decision about CIS?
We especially liked that CIS was an IB world school and that it followed the IB Primary Years, Middle Years and Diploma programmes. We were also impressed with the arts and sports facilities and its amazing Outdoor Discovery Centre. It’s a paradise for kids to play, learn and explore! We have had a very pleasant experience so far. Vanya has settled in well and enjoys going to school everyday.
How did the school make your child feel welcome?
From the minute we arrived at CIS, we were made to feel welcome and part of the community. The teachers are kind and friendly and always available to discuss Vanya’s education.
And what does Vanya like most about attending the school?
She loves the engaging learning environment where classes are structured around an inquiry, play-based approach (most of the time she is having so much fun she doesn’t even realise she is learning!). She also enjoys meeting new friends from all over the world.
As a parent, what do you value most about CIS?
We love how the school is always introducing new learning initiatives and giving its students access to the best facilities. It also regularly updates its learning spaces, which includes an amazing digital media studio for its secondary students.
Would you say you’re happy with the level of communication you receive from the school and how it engages parents?
Yes. There are many platforms for communication and plenty of ways to access information about school events and homework. There are also regular student-led conferences and parent-teacher meetings, which are great ways to get more detailed information about Vanya’s growth and progress.
There are a lot of initiatives at the school to ensure all parents feel part of the CIS community. There is an active PTA too, which I have been president of for almost two years. We arrange various events throughout the year – they’re a great way to meet other parents and be involved in school life. Parents can also act as class representatives, attend monthly coffee mornings with the principal and curriculum coordinator. They can also join in school field trips and different class activities.
How have the school’s facilities benefited your child?
Vanya loves art, music and sports. The black box theatre, indoor gym, and art and music rooms give her a wonderful opportunity to develop her passions and try new activities.
Thank you, Komal!
