The Riding for the Disabled Association Singapore is throwing open the stable doors for a day packed with pony rides, family fun and horsey activities THIS weekend!
We love pony rides, we’re well on board with a fun family day out, and we are totally up for jumping in the saddle to do our bit to support charities that provide very special programs in the community, so we’re definitely excited to spread the word about the upcoming RDA Singapore Open House happening THIS Sunday, 23 July!
If you don’t already know about the wonderful work of the Riding for the Disabled Association Singapore, it’s time to get acquainted: the RDA is the only local charity that provides free horse-riding therapy (or hippotherapy – no hippos involved!) to children and adults with disabilities. This unique therapy improves circulation, breathing, balance, motor coordination and mobility – and riders get a huge boost in self-confidence while bonding with new horsey best friends. The program was been designed to include children with developmental and learning needs such as autism spectrum disorder, intellectual disabilities such as Down’s Syndrome, or physical conditions such as cerebral palsy or visual or hearing impairments.
The RDA also provides a loving home to 20 horses, many of whom are enjoying retirement from their former lives as racing, polo and competition horses. We’ve met the horsey crew and can vouch for their awesomeness! We totally have a soft spot for Boss and the giant heart-shaped marking on his head!
Come meet the horses and support the Open House and carnival: we’re all invited (bring your neighhhhh-bours!) and you can expect lots of great eats and drinks, games galore, pony rides, arts and craft stations, a market place, lucky draws and more at this awesome family day out. The more, the merrier!
Pony rides are just $10, and proceeds from the day will go directly to continuing the work of the RDA. Kids will be able to enjoy a pony ride if your family pops by on the day, but we recommend you reserve your ride! You can book your slot by trotting over to http://bit.ly/RDAOpenHouse2017.
Want to learn more about how you can help?
Aside from being a great day out, RDA Open House is also a special opportunity to learn more about the amazing benefits of horse therapy, and ways that you can support the RDA as a volunteer. Over 100 riders attend free therapeutic sessions at RDA Singapore each week, and volunteers are essential for walking by the horses during therapy sessions, maintaining the stables and contributing to fundraising efforts.
If you can’t make it on the day, you can always read the stories behind the horses who call RDA home, and give them a carrot!
The carnival will take place under shelter, so the festivities will take place rain or shine!
