After all the chocolate bunnies and candy eggs it’s time to get back to some clean eating. Easier said than done. Take the softly softly approach with your kids and transition them from sugar to sanity with these great recipes. They won’t even know it’s happening!


Banana, Mango, and Vanilla Frozen Yoghurt
Frozen yoghurt can be deceptively sugary but it’s such a yummy way to cool off. This recipe is tasty without being a bad treat – by using the sweetness and creaminess of frozen bananas, there’s no need for sugar or cream.  And you don’t even need an ice cream maker! Peel, chop and freeze some bananas for 4 hours in an airtight container. Then mix with mango and yoghurt in a food processor and voila! Instant healthy frozen yoghurt. We even tried freezing the mango and it worked a treat.

Chocolate Avocado Mousse
Chocolate avocado, what? Yes, you read that right. This chocolate avocado mousse is a delish dessert – also egg and dairy-free – that cleverly sneaks nutritious fruit into your littlies’ diet. This recipe is also highly versatile; lighten it by omitting coconut milk, or speed up the process by using store-bought organic dark chocolate instead of raw cacao powder. Serve it in mini cups, with a sprinkle of crushed pistachio and fresh berries if you like.

Thin Oat and Ginger Crisps
These sugar-free snacks are a piece of cake to make, and use healthy ingredients like maple syrup, buckwheat flour, and fresh milk instead of your butter and sugar. What really gives these crisps the extra oomph are some extra special flavours – a tablespoon of ground ginger and pinch of ground clove! A tip: You can serve it up with a scoop of homemade froyo as a yoghurt sandwich.


Chocolate Almond Truffles
This is so simple. All you need to do is combine all the ingredients – pitted dates, raw almonds (or any other nuts of your choice), shredded coconut, cocoa powder, ground cinnamon, water, and extra virgin coconut oil – in a food processor, and hit the button. Refrigerate the mix for 10 minutes before shaping the small round truffles into balls. Coat the truffles in cocoa, shredded coconut, or chopped almonds, then pop them back into the fridge for 20 minutes. Now they’re ready to bite!

Homemade Rainbow Gummies
This one requires a juicer but after that it’s easy. These colourful treats look good to kids and are really good for them. Try combinations like beet, berries and carrot or kale, kiwi and green apple to create a rainbow of colours! And no need to for trial and error with juice combinations because this recipe provides all the options.
