Wondering if you should take the plunge and get Invisalign for your teen instead of traditional braces? Here are the pros and cons of both. Plus, find out how you can get $200 off your Invisalign treatment!
Teens these days don’t know how lucky they have it. Back in the day, we only had one option for orthodontics —good old metal braces — and suffered the consequences of being called “brace face” for a couple of years. Invisalign is virtually invisible (hence the name) and seems like an easy peasy way to get your desired smile. But is it the best choice for teenagers? This should help you decide…
It’s comfortable
Invisalign uses clear, custom-made aligners made of smooth, flexible SmartTrack material, which means there’s no metal wires involved. Traditional braces use wires, brackets and bands that may look clunky and complicated. So, because there are no metal wires involved with Invisalign’s treatment, you may not get the sores and blisters that you usually get from traditional braces. And yes, that means no more feeling self-conscious about smiling, talking in front of people or taking selfies – nobody can tell you’re wearing them!
It’s perfect for your student athlete
If you’ve got a sporty teen who plays high-impact sports, you might want to consider the safety aspects. Traditional braces have wires and brackets that could get knocked out of place — and possibly get ruined. Because Invisalign trays are customised to fit nice and snug over your teen’s teeth and gums, they can play their favourite sports with confidence and ease.
It’s convenient
Another awesome fact about Invisalign’s SmartTrack material is that it’s made of this advanced technology that applies a constant, gentle force that moves teeth more effectively and predictably than other aligners, as Invisalign is the world’s most advanced clear aligners and has over 9 million users worldwide. And, they’re removable. This means no food restrictions and easier for teens to stick to their regular toothbrushing routine — no need to maneuver around those pesky wires and brackets! Plus, without wires, there are no emergency visit scares caused by broken wires or brackets before exams or a sports meet.
Worried that your teen might not be wearing their Invisalign?
There’s also an option to request for compliance indicator* (see the blue dot on the Invisalign aligner below) on your teen’s Invisalign that’ll tell you if your teen has been wearing the aligners or not. The more they wear their Invisalign aligners with a compliance indicator, the lighter the shade of blue the dot will fade into. This is a good indication that they’ve been wearing their aligners. *additional charges may be applicable*
Worried that your teen might not remember when to change their aligners?
There’s an app for that! Thanks to the wonders of technology, there’s a calendar alert for changing out aligners on My Invisalign App. All you need to do is download the My Invisalign App on the Google or iOS App Store.
Discuss the pros and cons together
Discuss with your teen what the options are and getting them involved in the research process is often a lot easier to keep them committed to the treatment. Ask questions to understand if they have friends on braces and if they are sharing with you the food restrictions, hassle, and time spent in emergency visits caused by broken wires, then speak with them on alternatives. Visit the Invisalign Centre at Wisma Atria B1-14 with your teen to let them experience how Invisalign aligners are.
