As temperatures rise across the city, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is launching a total of 304 ‘BKK Cooling Centres’ offering air-conditioned spaces where you can take a break from the heat while enjoying things to do in Bangkok with kids around the city.
Starting from 1 April, these spots are open from 10am to 3pm, which is typically the hottest part of the day. There’s no confirmed end date yet, but the programme is expected to run until around the end of May.
Beyond indoor spaces, the BMA has also introduced 178 BKK Cooling Spots around the city. These are shaded rest areas in public parks, along with 2,806 free drinking water points across the Thai capital.

What are BKK Cooling Centres?

Also known as “heat escape rooms”, BKK Cooling Centres transform everyday public spaces into safe, cool environments where you can rest during periods of extreme heat.
The initiative is part of the BMA’s efforts to address increasingly intense heat waves in Bangkok, helping reduce the risk of heat-related illnesses by providing accessible places to cool down and stay hydrated.
While open to everyone, these centres are especially important for young children, older adults, people with health conditions and outdoor workers, who are more vulnerable to high temperatures.
The 304 centres are spread across the city and located in:
- 100 public schools
- 10 vocational training schools
- 68 public health service centres
- 76 recreation centres
- 50 district offices

Why this matters to families in Bangkok

Summer is when most Thai schools are on break. It’s a time to go outside, explore and enjoy things to do in Bangkok with kids. The heat shouldn’t stop you and your little ones from heading out, but it can make things more tiring.
That’s why these cooling centres and spots are important. They give you an easy place to pause, cool down and take a quick break before continuing with the rest of the day.
