This free outdoor movie night is the perfect thing to do in Bangkok with kids this weekend. If Bangkok’s air clears as expected, there’s no better excuse to get outside than Chula Klang Plaeng 2026, a free outdoor movie night that’s much more than just a film screening.
Taking place on 23 January 2026 from 4pm onwards, Chula Klang Plaeng is designed as a relaxed, come-and-go cultural evening where movies unfold alongside community storytelling.
Set in the leafy grounds of Chulalongkorn University Centenary Park, this open-air thing to do invites the public to explore the diversity, creativity, and everyday life around the Chula neighbourhood through cinema, talks, exhibitions, and hands-on activities.
What is Chula Klang Plaeng 2026?

Chula Klang Plaeng (จุฬาฯ กลางแปลง) is an outdoor cinema and community festival hosted by Chulalongkorn University. The event uses film and creative programming as a way to reflect on life, work, and social change.
Rather than focusing solely on entertainment, the programme highlights real voices: students, workers, vendors and local communities who shape the area’s identity.
The Movies Being Screened

This year’s programme features two Thai and international favourites, each exploring life choices, relationships and personal values:
Serendipity (2001)
A romantic classic about fate, timing, and chance encounters, following two strangers whose lives continue to intertwine long after their first meeting.
The Tin Mine (มหาลัยเหมืองแร่, 2005)
A beloved Thai film about an engineering student who discovers the true value of life through hands-on work, learning far more from experience than from textbooks.
Activities Beyond the Screen
Chula Klang Plaeng is designed to be explored before the films begin, with activities spread across the park:
- Exhibitions by nine Chula social development and volunteer clubs
- Bloom & Share: a flower gachapon workshop that lets participants send messages through blooms
- Paint the Wind: a creative fan-painting workshop
- Fortune-telling booths for a playful festival touch
These activities aim to showcase the many perspectives that coexist around the Chula campus, from students and staff to long-standing local communities.
Talks, Documentaries, and Live Music
The programme also includes:
- A panel talk: “From Siam to Sam Yan: Lessons from Urban Development Around Chula”
- A documentary screening: “From Siam to Sam Yan: Differences, Conditions, and Urban Change”
- Live music performances, adding to the picnic-style, community atmosphere
