6. The Little Herb House: TCM scented pouch-making workshop

This is a fantastic introduction to traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). This parent-child workshop allows you to create your own herbal fragrance bag using fragrant TCM herbs. You’ll also learn about the history and benefits of commonly-used herbs – you might even recognise some of them too.
When: 4-5 October 2025; English workshops (1.30pm – 2.15pm, 3.30pm – 4.15pm), Chinese workshops (2.30pm – 3.15pm, 4.30pm – 5.15pm)
Where: SCCC Recital Studio, Level 6
Price: $5 per parent-child pair, purchase here.

Why we love it: “I see TCM as a way of teaching kids about healthy eating, as food properties (heaty, cooling, neutral) is a part of it. This looks particularly helpful and fun as it teaches them herb properties, and it makes a scented pouch to help them sleep better (big win for tired mum here).” – Esther, Associate Editor

Why we love it: “As a former pipa player in my school orchestra, I’ve been waiting for the day that I can bring my kids to a Chinese orchestra performance. This would be a fun way to introduce them to Chinese instruments and also dispel the impression that it’s old-fashioned and ‘dry’. Chinese orchestra can be fun and kid-friendly too!” – Esther, Associate Editor
That’s not all!
With a total of 27 programmes, you’re sure to find something the whole family will love at Mid-Autumn Family FUN. On top of moon gazing and cultural performances like Hokkien opera, you’ll also get to do activities like tea-whisking, lantern decorating, and tying Chinese knots.
Don’t forget to bring your camera to snap lots of photos with five giant illuminated Monday Bruce (from the popular blind box series featuring a stressed-out white collar worker rabbit who doesn’t like to go to work, which are now fittingly situated in the CBD!) inflatables at the SCCC roof garden.
We gotta admit, everything sounds perfect for the whole family (including the grandparents). Family bonding, check!
