The only international outpost of the iconic restaurant in Barcelona, Restaurant Gaig on Stanley Street is a name synonymous with authentic, inspired Catalan fare. Its founder Chef Carles Gaig, the 4th generation of the 154-year-old Catalan family restaurant returns to Singapore this August. Together with his protégé, Executive Chef Marti Carlos, they will be presenting a gastronomic fare of A Summer Night in Barcelona exclusively on 17 and 18 August.
The six-course dinner menu ($198++ per diner) highlighting the late summer seasonal ingredients from the land and sea celebrates the natural environment of the region on the Mediterranean coast, rich with an abundance of fresh produce from the sea, fields, and mountains. Each dish is carefully created through a close collaboration between the teacher and his protégé. Rooted in the traditional recipes and influenced by the region’s rich culinary culture and the season’s bounty, every course is also the expression of a unique creativity, articulated through innovative techniques and artful plating. It was exactly with this modern spirit of innovation that chef Carles transformed his family business in 1984, winning the restaurant its first Michelin star in 1993, and turning Gaig into a global name.
The culinary showcase commences with a selection of moreish canapes followed by A Meló amb pernil – a refreshing chilled melon soup. The Atlantic cod seasonal salad is an enticing prelude to the indulgent Arròs verd – Green seafood rice with sea anemones and sea urchin, and Mar i muntanya – Guinea fowl stew and Canadian lobster. The dinner concludes on a luscious note with torched Spanish yellow peach and chantilly.
