There are plenty of other schools in Singapore with international baccalaureate diploma programmes (IB DP) – but here’s why One World International School (OWIS)’s IB programme is worth checking out.
If you’ve got a teen at home who will be heading off to university soon, you’re in the right place. We’ve got everything you need to know about One World International School (OWIS)’s exciting new International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB DP) for Grade 11 students.
What exactly is the IB DP?
The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme is a forward-thinking, two-year educational programme consisting of six subject groups and core courses, comprising Theory of Knowledge (TOK), Creativity, Activity and Service (CAS) and the Extended Essay. Not only will your child be tested on academics, but the well-rounded programme also allows the children to grow and become the best versions of themselves.
As an OWIS student, your teen is required to take courses within these six subject groups: studies in language and literature, language acquisition, individuals and societies, sciences, mathematics and the arts, with different courses available under each subject group.
Apart from academics, your teen will also have the opportunity to develop their knowledge physically, intellectually, emotionally and ethically. They’ll also get the chance to apply what they’ve learned and put their critical thinking skills to good use. You’ll be glad to know that the IB DP also creates lifelong learners who understand how their knowledge and skills can be used to benefit the community at large, too.
Wondering how your child will be evaluated? During the two-year programme, they’ll undergo internal and external assessments, and will also undertake a community service-related project during the school semester.
And, upon completion, OWIS students will receive an internationally accepted qualification that is recognised by prestigious institutions and top universities globally, opening multiple doors to universities in Singapore and abroad – score!
Why should you enrol your child at OWIS?
A values-driven and diverse international school with over 70 nationalities represented in the community, OWIS provides holistic, future-proof education. As Head of School Michelle Dickinson shares, “We strongly believe in the IB mission in developing caring individuals who are always hungry for knowledge, and to create a better world through intercultural understanding and respect.”
And, if you’re deterred by the cost of an international education, you’ll be glad to know that OWIS’ mission is to make world-class education accessible to all students, so it’s definitely an affordable option.
What other programmes does OWIS have?
OWIS doesn’t only have the IB DP – little ones are nurtured from the start with OWIS’ IB Primary Years Programme (IB PYP). Underpinned by the English National Curriculum, this engaging, inquiry-based early childhood curriculum is comprehensive and teaches its students to explore their surroundings through exciting activities.
The school also has a Cambridge Secondary Programme and International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) curriculum which is adapted for the OWIS international population for students in Grades 6 to 10. But that’s not all! It also has specialist lessons in art, music, sports and Mandarin, and offers a wide range of additional learning programmes, including robotics and coding, Model United Nations (MUN) and performing arts.
