Sending your helper for her six month medical couldn't be easier... read on to find out how you can get it done without her having to leave home!
Let’s be honest, one of the biggest perks of living in Singapore is that we’re able to hire live-in household help, also known as a foreign domestic worker (FDW), or, more fondly, aunties. These are the awesome ladies we rely on to help with the never-ending juggle of managing a full-time career, chores, cooking, kids and a million other things on a daily basis. But when we do employ an aunty, it also comes with responsibilities and rules, one of which is the six month medical exam for helpers. But the good news is, this often time-consuming and tedious regulation has become a lot easier for all in recent years: it can be done in the comfort of home. True story.
Does your helper qualify for the service?
According to MOM, your helper can take advantage of the home-based six month medical exam (6ME) service if she is due to take her pregnancy and syphilis tests. If she is scheduled for her HIV and TB tests, Doctor Anywhere provides this service, although there is no mention of this on the MOM website.
What we love about the service
If, like us, you’re constantly wrangling work life, home life and keeping a handle on the kids, the six month medical exam always seems to come around in the blink of an eye. Having our right-hand woman ‘out of office’ for half a day is not always practical. Of course we make it work, but now that this service can be done at home definitely has us – and our helpers (who hate going to the docs anyway) – doing a happy jig.
Convenience is king when it comes to keeping life running as smoothly as possible, after all. We also love the fact that we don’t have to go to the clinic to collect the results. The results are sent directly to MOM by the service provider after 10 working days. Easy peasy, lemon squeezy.
How do we sign up?
It’s as simple as going online to the Doctor Anywhere website to book your appointment! If you’re using Doctor Anywhere, download the app and make payment for the appointment. Its medical team will contact you within 48 hours of your order to confirm your appointment details.
How does it work?
The day before your helper’s appointment, you will receive a confirmation text message. All your helper needs to prepare is the 6ME form from MOE and her work permit. The service provider’s medical team will then come to your home and take and send your helper’s blood sample to a licensed laboratory, where it will be tested and certified by a Singapore-registered doctor.
How do we get the results?
After 10 working days you’ll get the completed 6ME form. If your helper was found to be pregnant or had contracted syphilis, the service provider will inform MOM on your behalf. You can also opt to do the bi-yearly HIV test, which is also required by MOM.
