Learn how EtonHouse earned multiple gold and silver awards in the 2024 Singapore Education Awards!
EtonHouse is the first international school in Singapore to introduce a primary bilingual programme aligned with the IB PYP – it’s no wonder they were awarded Gold for Best Bilingual Programme in the Singapore Education Awards! They’ve also got some amazing individuals that earned them awards in the Principal of the Year and Teacher of the Year categories. To top it off, they’ve also clinched Silver for Best Small School of Singapore! Learn how EtonHouse earned these amazing accolades.
Why did EtonHouse clinch the gold for its bilingual programme?
Being bilingual is such a powerful tool in today’s globalised world – EtonHouse makes sure to incorporate it into daily school life and across subjects. That’s the strength of their Mandarin Immersion Pathway at EtonHouse International School Broadrick, which creates real-life opportunities for the students to practice their Mandarin. By participating in meaningful conversations, the students improve their understanding and gain a deeper appreciation for the language.
Those who come from non-Mandarin-speaking families don’t have to worry, as the Mandarin Immersion Pathway programme eases the students into the language. Students will start out with intensive Mandarin exposure in Year 1 followed by a 50:50 bilingual immersion from Year 2 to 6. By the end of Year 6, they’ll be fully bilingual – EtonHouse has the results to prove it too, with Year 5 and 6 students averaging 84% in the Level 4 Youth Chinese Test. That’s the highest level, making it a clear indicator of their students’ proficiency!
Award-winning teachers and principals across multiple centres share their philosophies that led to EtonHouse’s success
EtonHouse Garden School by the Bay’s principal, Bridget Kang, is a strong believer in inquiry-based learning, empowering children to take charge of their own learning journey. With 13 years of experience in the Early Childhood field, Bridget has been instrumental in shaping innovative educational landscapes, including setting up EtonHouse’s first infant care centre and establishing EtonHouse Garden School by the Bay. This pioneering school redefines Early Years education through its unique programme and learning environment centred on nature education, sustainability, and community. Bridget’s commitment to professional growth is evident in her participation in the REACH International Study Group in Reggio Emilia, Italy, which deepened her understanding of the Reggio Emilia approach at its origin. Her leadership ensures that students are encouraged to be curious, confident, and capable, with ample opportunities for their voices to be heard and to engage in higher-level thinking. It’s no surprise that her dedication and innovative contributions earned her the Gold award for Principal of the Year – Kindergarten!
EtonHouse Pre-School Mountbatten 223’s principal, Josephyne Ho, has found her calling as a motivator of children and educators. In her mid-30s, she took a leap of faith, leaving behind a successful career as a flight attendant to pursue early childhood education. Now with over 20 years of experience, she serves as a senior principal, mentoring countless educators. Josephyne is also a writer and illustrator of children’s books, crafting stories that help children explore the world, learn life lessons, and cultivate a love of reading. Under her leadership, Mountbatten 223 has become a highly sought-after school, with students consistently excelling, including sweeping most top awards at the annual National Robotics Competition. Her outstanding contributions to the school community earned her the Principal of the Year – Kindergarten award, including Gold in 2023, a recognition driven by the admiration and support of parents within her community.
Yeo Si Qi, a teacher at EtonHouse Pre-School Upper Bukit Timah, loves watching her students blossom into confident, curious, and independent learners who take charge of their own learning. Si Qi creates a nurturing and approachable environment, where children feel valued and understood. She embraces their individuality, fostering a sense of trust and warmth that makes her a friend to all. By partnering closely with parents, she keeps them engaged in their child’s development and progress, ensuring a strong support system both at home and school. Teacher Si Qi believes in learning from the children too, adapting her practices to meet their needs. Her dedication and drive have been key to her receiving the Gold for Teacher of the Year – Kindergarten.
