Got questions about Chinese learning that you need answered? At this event, you’ll get to meet Huali Xiong CIS’s K-12 Principal for Chinese Language and Culture. CIS’s Chinese Language program for kindergarten and primary students
Unlike most other schools, students at CIS have two options when it comes to Chinese language learning: there’s a daily language acquisition program for all proficiency levels starting from pre-kindergarten to grade six and a Chinese-English bilingual program from junior kindergarten to grade 6. The bilingual program is fully aligned with the IB PYP curriculum with two qualified teachers per class: one native English speaker and one native Chinese speaker.
What makes CIS’s program different
At CIS, children are taught through immersion instead of translation. This means they get more exposure to Chinese, which makes them more proficient and confident in using the language. All teaching materials used are authentic and personalised and, if they need more material, the kids at CIS have access to a collection of more than 8,000 Chinese fiction books. They also become fully immersed in the culture, so that they’re able to put their learning into context they understand. Pretty cool stuff, we think!
