Imaginarium: to the Ends of the Earth, the interactive children’s museum exhibition kicks off in Singapore 6 May, at the Singapore Art Museum (SAM at Q8) and runs until the 27th of August 2017. Check out the programme guide for live performances, hands-on workshops and a craft fair run entirely by children, plus other activities throughout the day.
Imaginarium asks us how much we know about the planet we inhabit? The exhibition enlists the help of nine contemporary artists to create immersive, tactile and interactive artworks designed to awaken the inner explorer in children of all ages. In this 7th edition of Imaginarium, the annually anticipated family exhibition titled To the Ends of the Earth, focuses on how we see people, flora, and fauna adapt to their ever-changing surroundings.
As anyone who’s attended previous Imaginarium exhibitions (see last year’s, Over the Ocean, Under the Sea) knows, there’s nothing feet-dragging about a day at the museum with this super-interesting exhibition. A series of programmes will take place throughout the exhibition period, where young and old can engage with artist performances and workshops.
We were lucky to preview the exhibit ahead of its opening, and we fell in love with Hiromi Tango’s Lizard Tail. LED lights pulsating to the rhythm of a heart beat, textile, wire, photographs and video all invite kids to touch, feel and interact with the artwork. If you’re lucky, Australian-Japanese artist, Hiromi will be there in her persona of Lizzie the lizard, helping children make their own tails at one of the many craft spaces.
Go on a treasure hunt for Singaporean artist, Calvin Pang‘s ‘Where Am I’ tiny mushroom clusters dotted throughout the gallery, run barefoot over solidified dew drops in Thai artist, Nipan Oranniwesna‘s ‘Another Island’, and take control of a drawing robot to create a collaborative canvas!
