Join us on Sunday 10 July for a fun family day out that supports one very special charity: Riding for the Disabled Association of Singapore
We love pony rides, and we love fun family days out, and we also love doing our bit to support charities that do some very special work in the community, so we’re excited to spread the word about the upcoming RDA Singapore Open House and carnival on Sunday 10 July 2016!
If you don’t already know about the wonderful work of the Riding for the Disabled Association of Singapore, it’s time to get acquainted: the RDA is the only local charity that provides free horse-riding therapy (or hippotherapy) to children and adults with disabilities. This unique therapy improves circulation, breathing, balance, motor coordination and mobility – and beneficiaries get a huge boost in self-confidence, get to bond with these beautiful animals, and have fun! Some of the beneficiaries include children with developmental and learning needs such as autism spectrum disorder, intellectual disabilities such as Down’s Syndrome, or physical conditions such as cerebral palsy or visual or hearing impairments.
The RDA also provides a loving home to 20 horses, many of whom are enjoying retirement from their former lives as racing, polo and competition horses.
Come meet the horses and support this amazing program at the Open House and carnival, which is open to all the community. Enjoy food stalls and games, pony rides, arts and crafts and a super fun family day out. The more, the merrier! Come and say hi, as the HoneyKids team will be there on the day!
Here’s just some of the fun to expect on the day:
- Pony rides
- Traditional carnival games
- Photo corner: come take a pic with one of the beautiful horses!
- Free yoga sessions led by OhmSantih Yoga School (bring along your mat!)
- Arts and crafts stalls offering the creations of RDA beneficiaries
- Stable tours: donate $5 and grab a bucket of fruit for the horses’ lunch!
- Horse shoe decorating: $10 drop-in workshops
- Balloon sculpting
- And don’t forget to enter the lucky draws to win special prizes including staycations at The Shangri-La and Village Hotel Changi, and vouchers for Sport4kids, Canvass & Swish!
Pony rides are just $10, and proceeds from the day will go directly to continuing the work of the RDA. Kids will be able to enjoy a pony ride if your family pops by on the day, but we recommend you reserve your ride! You can book until 8 July by heading to http://tinyurl.com/rdaponyride2016.
The carnival will take place under shelter, so the festivities will take place rain or shine!

Where: Riding for the Disabled Association of Singapore, 5 Jalan Mashhor, Singapore 299174
Parking: There is limited free parking on site, and plenty of on-street parking

Don’t forget to register for your pony ride if you want to guarantee your spot!
Want to learn more about how you can help?
Aside from being a great day out, RDA Open House is also a special opportunity to learn more about the amazing benefits of horse therapy, and ways that you can support the RDA as a volunteer. Over 100 riders attend free therapeutic sessions at RDA Singapore each week, and volunteers are essential for walking by the horses during therapy sessions, maintaining the stables and contributing to fundraising efforts.
If you can’t make it on the day, you can always read the stories behind the horses who call RDA home, and give them a carrot!
