Helping your kids to develop a love for fitness from an early age is a great way to put them on the path to an active, healthy lifestyle. So, what are the best ways to get your kids active in Singapore? Encouraging your child to be your jogging buddy makes running a wonderful, bonding activity – you can start small, but why not set a great goal for the family and join a kid-friendly fun run? The annual and wildly popular Standard Chartered Marathon returns on the 5th of December as part of a fun-filled, action-packed weekend – this time, as a standalone event and a carnival for the whole family.
While the Kids Dash has always been an integral part of the Standard Chartered Marathon, this year’s edition features a major change – the fun run for kids will be a standalone event for the first time! Held on 5 December at the Singapore Sports Hub, the event will run alongside the ASEAN Paralympic Games, so families can also catch the ASEAN Para track and field events at the National Stadium after the run.
With major race categories like the Marathon, Ekiden, Half Marathon, and the 10km race (for people of all abilities) being held the next day (December 6), it’s set to be an exciting running fiesta for the whole family.
With Kids Dash being staged as a fun-filled, standalone event this year, young runners everywhere will be motivated to lace up their trainers and head to the tracks to begin a lifetime of great health. The 700m run for kids up to 13 years old is non-competitive (participants will not be issued timing chips) and provides a fun, easy foundation for kids who may want to graduate to long distance running in the years to come. Best of all, each participant will be awarded with a shiny medal at the end so your child’s achievement will be recognised.
To ensure your child’s safety, participants will be placed in specific start waves, so kids can run safely with others of their own age. Note: children below six years old must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Alongside the run, families can also enjoy the carnival, complete with performances, delish food and drinks stalls and activities to keep everyone entertained.
Heads up: A special wave for kids with disabilities will be announced soon! For more information, write to [email protected].
Registration for Kids Dash has opened (closing 15 November, or while slots last) at $25, with a 15% discount if you register with a Standard Chartered credit or debit card. To complete the fun, sporty day, all participants will be given a Kids Dash T-shirt, courtesy of adidas. Go on – snap up a spot in Kids Dash by following this link!
