While autumn heralds cooler winds, the heat and humidity of summer linger in the early month of the new season. The sultriest period of the year calls for nourishing fare that balances the body’s vital energy.
Available for lunch only from 12 September to 31 October 2022, Yàn offers a five-course Wellness Menu ($68++ per person) specially developed for autumn with guidance from Zhongjing TCM Clinic. This seasonal menu continues the collaboration with Zhongjing TCM Clinic, which began in May, to curate wholesome Cantonese delights focusing on shi liao (食疗) with the expertise of the physicians. A special workshop will also be held on 2 October for members of the public, who will enjoy the menu during a knowledge sharing session by an established TCM practitioner.
In autumn, dampness-heat syndrome causes ‘Qi’ deficiency and this results in inflammation, loss of appetite, water retention, and a vulnerable immune system. For this season, Yàn’s menu weaves together ingredients such as cordyceps flower, black fungus, and glehnia root to relieve dampness and provide support to the immune system. Classic techniques such as steaming, stewing, and double-boiling are applied to bring out the natural flavours of the ingredients.
Highlights of the menu include Double-boiled Pork Ribs Soup with Glehnia Root and Solomon’s Seal, as well as Liquorice Roasted Duck with Stewed Noodles.
