Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations are still going strong in Singapore – and it’s not too late to see beautiful lanterns on display! Gardens by the Bay is hosting a visual extravaganza for Mid-Autumn Festival until this Sunday, 4th October – don’t miss the dazzling array of lanterns dotted around the gardens for the whole family to ooooooh and ahhhhh at!
Light up your evening
Gather up the littlies and make your way to Gardens by the Bay to gaze at the huge array of super-sized lanterns depicting children’s favourite themes such as jungle animals, dinosaurs and dragons. This was a huge hit with our entire family!
With 17 lantern sets totalling 300 lanterns in all, make sure to catch these favourites:
- Floating lanterns, majestic sea palace and dragon boats over at Dragonfly Lake
- 25m-long dinosaurs roaring with light at the Supertree Grove
- Flowers and baobab trees scattered throughout the gardens
- An illuminated night safari of lions, tigers, elephants, zebras and giraffes
Mums and dads, take note of this special promotion: kids age 12 years and below can check in at the ticketing counter waving a lantern of their own to claim a free ticket to enter the Flower Dome or Cloud Forest on the same day. This offer runs until 4th October.
Cultural performances
This year’s theme for the cultural performances is ‘Celebrating 50 Mid-Autumns’ and is organised in partnership with the National Arts Council. Visitors can check out free nightly shows at the Supertree Grove, and see groups such as the Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan Dance Theater, Nam Hwa Opera as well as Malay dance groups and Indian classical dance groups.
A goat of many colours…
With this being the Year of the Goat and the year of SG50, a competition was organised for 50 life-sized goat lanterns to be decorated and displayed for us all to admire without the fear of one of them trying to eat our clothes. Our kids particularly liked the one with the scary teeth! Pick your own favourite at the display near the Supertree Grove during the festival. There are some really cool designs on display!
And a festival of food
Make a pit stop at Food Street where you will find more than 30 stalls at the Supertree Grove selling eats such as kueh tutu, muah chee and vadai. We even spotted fried Oreos if you’re up for an interesting treat (scoff it while the kids aren’t looking!).
