As a part of Singapore’s “Festival of Strings”, the inaugural Singapore International Violin Competition, in celebration of Singapore’s Golden Jubilee, is about to commence!
In a bid to discover the greatest (and youngest) global talents of our time, the triennial competition will showcase aspiring musicians under 30, flown in from around the world, united by their dream to become the world’s best violinists.
Between 10 – 21 January 2015, thirty or so candidates will play in the majesty of some of Singapore’s world-class venues in 3 live rounds, captivating audiences not just by the sheer spectacle but the inspirational stories that helped bring this event together.
The top three finalists will perform in a major 20th century, Romantic concerto with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra at the Grand Final on 21 January 2015 at the Esplanade Concert Hall. As if that isn’t enough, they will each compete to win the grand prize of USD$50,000… which seems minuscule in comparison to also getting the priceless opportunity to play with the one and only, London Philharmonic Orchestra on top of a music deal with famed label, Naxos.
Hosted by the Yong Siew Conservatory of Music at NUS, the competition will be judged by an international jury of 9 renowned musicians like France’s Pierre Amoyal and chaired by Singapore’s very own Qian Zhou.
Ticket sales for the competition begin on 13 October.
