As part of the expansion of GSS: Experience Singapore, Experience Kampong Gelam will kick off with projeKGlamway – an outdoor fashion show featuring Arab Street’s textiles through the latest collections of 5 local designers – this Saturday! Each of them, as inspired by Kampong Gelam, reflect their ties to the neighbourhood through their designs. Besides the models, the likes of Aisyah Aziz, Haneesya Hanee, Suthasini and other local celebrities will also grace the runway.
Drawing on fond teenage memories at Kampong Gelam, costume designer and stylist, Azni Samdin, will showcase designs based on Royals and Sultans who used to reside at the heart of the precinct. His inspiration will materialise with Queen’s Fabrics, a textile shop specializing in fabric for women’s wear.
Sherry See, widely known as missyutopia, is another designer to keep an eye out for. A batik addict, much of her life is tied to the iconic neighbourhood – having established her label, gotten married and started a family as a resident. She uses her design to represent the diversity and passion found in the Kampong Gelam community, working with Bian Swee Hin, a 2nd Generation business that specialises in print batik.
Other local designers to look forward to are: dressmaker and bespoke fashion designer Feayn, celebrated Muslimah wear designer Lulu Alhadad as well as Ada Goh, who specialises in evening couture, bespoke wedding dresses and fusion Qipaos.
Those looking to bust out a dance move or two can groove along with ScRach MarcS x Classic Mix as they put their own twist on popping and waacking.
