How to choose the best air purifier for your home
This is the moment to think about the air inside your home. Keeping windows and doors closed when outdoor air quality is poor can reduce the amount of haze entering, while a properly sized air purifier with effective particle filtration and a HEPA filter can help to remove airborne pollutants that do make it indoors.
When choosing one, look beyond the marketing claims: CADR (Clean Air Delivery Rate), room size, particle filtration, noise levels and the cost and availability of replacement filters are all worth considering. If your family prefers one appliance that does more than simply purify, Dyson’s Purifier Cool PC2 De-NOx TP12 combines air purification with a cooling fan. The Xiaomi Smart Air Purifier 4 Pro is worth a look if you want strong airflow and smart-home features without spending close to four figures. It has a particle CADR of 500m³/h and is rated for spaces of roughly 35–60m². The purifier also offers app control and a relatively quiet sleep mode, making it a practical choice for a child’s bedroom, study or medium-sized family room. Singapore retailer FairPrice currently lists it at S$288, although availability can change and the product was showing as out of stock online when checked.

4. Philips 3000i Series AC3033/30 – Best for allergy-conscious families
Philips’ 3000i Series AC3033/30 is designed for larger rooms and has a 520m³/h CADR. Its three-in-one filtration combines HEPA, activated carbon and a pre-filter, while sensors monitor PM2.5, allergens and gases. There’s also an automatic mode that adjusts purification according to detected air quality, plus a sleep mode for quieter nighttime operation. Philips says the purifier can remove 99.97% of ultrafine particles and is designed to purify a 20m² room in less than six minutes under its stated test conditions.

For a big living room, open-plan apartment or family area where you want serious air-cleaning capacity, the Blueair Blue Pure 211i Max is another strong contender. Blueair positions it for extra-large rooms and pairs particle filtration with activated carbon for smoke and odours. The company says its SmokeBlock filter option uses additional activated carbon to tackle smoke and gases, making the model particularly relevant during haze season.

6. Levoit Core 300S – Best for kids’ bedrooms and smaller rooms
If you don’t need to purify the whole living room, a smaller purifier can make more sense, particularly for a child’s bedroom. The Levoit Core 300S is compact, smart-enabled and considerably cheaper than the larger models above. Levoit Singapore currently lists it at S$199, while COURTS also carries the model. What should I look for in an air purifier?
During haze season, bigger isn’t automatically better, however the air purifier does need to be appropriately sized for the room. Check the manufacturer’s recommended room area and, where available, compare CADR figures. A purifier with a high CADR can clean a room faster, but you’ll also want to consider whether it is quiet enough for a nursery or bedroom and whether replacement filters are readily available (and affordable).
It’s also worth remembering that an air purifier works best as part of a broader haze strategy. When outdoor air quality is poor, keep windows and doors closed, minimise the entry of outdoor air where practical and check official air-quality and health guidance before deciding whether children should be outdoors. Singapore’s PSI is a 24-hour rolling measure, so conditions can change during the day.
