We love how North London Collegiate School (Singapore) makes its students feel like they’re part of a big family. Here’s all you need to know about its tested-and-proven approach.
Did you know that the North London Collegiate School’s (NLCS) family of schools have 175 years of history? How impressive is that! On top of that, students at its Singapore school, NLCS (Singapore), often have big smiles on their faces — and we’re told it boils down to this: the school ensures each student feels known, challenged, and celebrated.
But what exactly does this mean? Here’s what we managed to find out from NLCS (Singapore).
Each student is known
No NLCS (Singapore) student is an island; they function as part of a big community. Indeed, Principal Paul Friend champions how “great teaching comes from great relationships”, with emphasis placed on the connection between teachers and students. The teachers are passionate, kind, and nurturing, creating a world where students feel safe and supported. This, in turn, enables students to express themselves confidently, build resilience, and take thoughtful risks.
In fact, NLCS’ (Singapore) teachers take it one step further by providing each student with “floors, not ceilings”, giving them the opportunities to chase their goals and dreams! As a parent myself, I love the image of a school where my child is known not only on a first-name basis, but on a level where their achievements are recognised.
Each student is challenged
Building on the ‘floors, not ceilings’ ethos, students at NLCS (Singapore) are encouraged to think critically beyond face value. The curriculum serves as a foundation; guided by dedicated subject-specialist teachers, intellectual independence is key for students to explore beyond what they are taught.
Teachers go out of the way to inculcate a love of learning, instilling a sense of curiosity in the way their students view the world. Lessons are made fun, with students looking forward to attending school each day.

Students are also given an expanded worldview through events that bring together their peers from all over the world. For example, the inaugural NLCS Music Festival and NLCS Games, hosted in Singapore this year, gathered students from NLCS’ global campuses in a celebration of music and sports.
Psst, parents, I’m sure you’ll love the additional enrichment options here too. Starting from Junior School, NLCS (Singapore) exposes its students to activities like coding, European languages, as well as Chinese dance and theatre. The Clanchy Lecture series is a definite highlight, which deep-dives into an array of thought-provoking topics, such as “Mapping Our History: What Secrets Do Maps Hold about the Past?”. Have an active child? Try trampolining, or even the PADI Bubblemaker programme.

Each student is celebrated

Despite being part of a larger community, each student is celebrated for their individuality and creativity. No achievement is too big or too small!
The school often shares snippets of its students’ achievements on its platforms. For example, NLCS (Singapore) shared its heartiest congratulations to Felicity, its scholar-athlete who was recently crowned the Girls U12 Champion at the 54-hole Junior Championship at New Kuta Golf in Bali. The school also celebrated its F1 in Schools participants: one team placed in the semi-finals, and another clinched the Best Video Presentation award.
Experience the NLCS (Singapore) spirit for yourself!
A sure-fire way of getting a feel of what a school is like? Go on a school tour. NLCS (Singapore) organises on-campus open houses on Saturdays at 10am and 2pm, where you can tour the campus, attend a presentation by the Senior team, and chat with its educators. For greater convenience, there are also virtual coffee information sessions organised by a member of the Senior team.
