Weekly Recipe Planner: Post-Holiday Meals
They’ve overdosed on sugar and now you’ve got some irritable little people on your hands. If your kids need a return to happiness, part of the answer might lie in selecting the right food – at least for a little while. We’ve done a little research on cleansing meals for kids and found some palatable dishes that will help clean little systems and replace grumping and lethargy with joy and energy.
Savoury Oatmeal
Skip the mash and make tasty savoury oatmeal. Not only does oatmeal cleanse the entire digestive system, the soluble fibre also controls sugar and cholesterol levels.
Tuna Salad Wraps
A great lunchbox alternative, this wrap refreshes the palate and cools your kid down after all that running around. Quick and easy to make, those with more adventurous taste can add some mild chilli sauce for that extra oomph.
Juice Cleanse
Juicing for little ones may sound too radical, but it really isn’t. A few healthy juices paired with light, clean meals will make them less irritable and give them more vitality. Just what the doctor ordered after all those candy canes.
Watermelon Basil Salad
The best part about having summer all year round is watermelons! The sweet and refreshing fruit not only complements the peppery basil, but adds a burst of colour to the salad.
Peanut Sauce Baked Tofu
Ham, roasted turkey, BBQ – we need a break from all that meat! Get the protein you need with this gluten-free dish that’s so good, you might just turn vegan. Don’t worry if little ones don’t fancy soy. The peanut sauce is so fragrant, they won’t even realise its tofu. Dip them in ketchup for a tangy flavour or for those with nut allergies.
Baked Stuffed Artichoke with Leeks
While alcohol is a no-no for kids, a liver cleanse is always great after all that feasting. Artichokes do just that. Tweak them to your liking and stuff it your own way. Just be sure to use fresh breadcrumbs for that extra yum!
