Australian International School’s Great Australia Day BBQ
No matter where you now call home, each year January 26th, Aussies across the globe grab a mate, throw a snag on the BBQ and celebrate all things Australian for one reason only: Australia Day.
The HoneyKids team headed down to the Great Australia Day BBQ at Australian International School (AIS) to share in the community spirit. Officially kicked off by none other than Australian High Commissioner, H. E. Mr Philip Green, families were in for an action packed day full of entertainment and activities.
While we might’ve knocked back a few more beers than usual that day (oops), we were chuffed to share the goings-on that sunny afternoon with the AIS community – yes, all 2,800 of ‘em!
Barbies & more
Trust the Aussies to put on an awesome BBQ! The Butcher provided a fine selection of gourmet meats, and that old favourite – the sausage sandwich – that left us licking our fingers (surreptitiously). The kids went wild with the abundant fairy floss, ice kachang, and popcorn stalls dotting the scene, while our thirst was quenched with deliciously cool drinks to temper the heat, served up by cheerful volunteers from the AIS’ Parents’ Associations (AISPA).
Live music
What’s the best accompaniment to good grub? Good music, naturally. While under the big white tent, we were treated to familiar, catchy tunes by the rockin’ good band No Worries. Needless to say, the littlies loved singing and clapping along.
G3ames galore
Fun topped our list at AIS’ Australia Day! Hordes of kiddos went a-slidin’ on bouncy castles, while some others tried their luck with the dunk tanks. The ultra-competitive ones took part in competitions like a penalty shoot-out and tug-of-war. Of course, everyone sported something uniquely Australian – Australian flag face tattoos, wearing flags as capes, and more.
We had an unforgettable Australia Day, and if you were part of this year’s celebrations at AIS, be sure to check out the pics on their Facebook page photo album and see if you can spot yourself. Now, please excuse us while we put another shrimp on the barbie!
