Voices of Singapore launches its very first Young Voices Festival (YVF) this November! YVF is a holiday programme for children aged five to 7 with a unique focus on group singing. It is helmed by VOS’s acclaimed artistic director, Dr Darius Lim, who also leads the 380-strong VOS Children’s Choir, the largest in Singapore.
The festival features 15 different workshops by eight of VOS’s established pedagogues and conductors. Each workshop will explore different facets of what it means to be a chorister, developing aural skills, music reading, ensemble techniques, singing technique and musicality. For targeted and best learning, participants will be grouped according to their ages.
Children will be grouped into three choirs to experience each workshop and learn new repertoire together in their respective choirs. The festival culminates in an evening showcase at the historic Chijmes Hall at the end of the second day, where participants will share the invaluable experience of performing for their friends and family at the 300-seater hall.
Through the festival, children are given the platform to meet others from different backgrounds and share their passion for singing and music. This is part of VOS’ mission to foster a love for music in the next generation and build a Singing Singapore.
